Yes they are great cars and you will enjoy it. I took a long time to make my decision to go with this car and I am very glad that I did make the choice to go with an xfire.
THis forum will have a lot of great info for you and you will truly enjoy the banter.

But these cars are pretty well made. They are essentially a Mercedes benz under the hood with a unique design and a chrysler emblem. If you take care of them they will take care of you.
I havent owned mine long enough to probably validate everything as far as good or bad issues but for now I am happy and hope that you will be as well.
This forum has a lot of opinions and happy owners and a few unhappy. For the most part these are happy owners.
Re: How Do You Like The Croosfire?
There have been a few cars that have been real problem children. Very early there were a few cars that got lemon lawed out. From time to time there is one that seemingly just defies being fixed. I have often thought these were more dealer specific issues but have no hard facts to back that assertion. The vast majority of owners have enjoyed near flawless operation. The poor few that don't, have a life of hell. Hope you got one of the good ones.

I have had no problems with my car (though it's a 2008 I bought new and has 6k miles on it now), but I suspect that the biggest issue for the crossfire is being able to find a technician who can accurately diagnose (forget fixing it, just diagnosing it will be the issue) the problem. So one of the best properties of the crossfire IMO (the mercedes heritage and german assembly) is also the worst property of the car. If benz gave chrysler just the chassis, suspension, and brakes and chrysler was responsible for the motor, transmission, and electronics the car would probably be much easier to maintain (and probably be a bit faster than it is with the benz motor).
Re: How Do You Like The Croosfire?
Ive had my 05 Limited Roadster for over a year now and I can say it is a great car. It has great style and driving it is always a blast. It is a very solid well made car that has been very reliable for me. The only issues that i had with it was tire pressure sensors, valve cover gaskets, and the alarm siren went haywire. All were covered under the warranty. Go for it you wont regret it!
Re: How Do You Like The Croosfire?
Reference to my post. My car only had 35K miles on it when it started to have signs of problems. Chrysler would NOT replace the engine due to the cost ( $27,000). I don't abuse my cars for any reason. Now as to the dealer incompetence issue, that's a problem we will all have to face at some time. It's a 5 Star dealer with years of experience. They bought all the tools, went to the Mercedes class sessions, etc. But only 1 man can work on it because of the cars limited shop time. As to them not knowing the problem, thats true. When you have an engine with no history, you have to guess. The wrist pin going bad was it, because it make a rattle sound. Then the same pin went out again. Well maybe its the crankshaft out of round. They called me today to let me know that the block had problems. They took it to a machine shop to have it checked out. When I get it back, the entire engine will have been rebuilt, with a new short block, ($10,000) Heads were all redone, injectors replaced, etc. etc. You all will find out that these engines, cars, are not so easy to work on, and you have to go to a 5 star dealer for warrenty work. Not many around.

You have to understand that once in awhile someone purchases a " Lemon " ! Heck maybe the engine was built on a Monday and the technician had a hangover or a late Friday afternoon and he or she was late for a hot date. In any case I have been on this forum for about a year and a half and can count on one hand the number of incidents where the engine internals were an issue.
What's really nice is the support one receives from this forum and the available information at the touch of a keyboard. So roll the dice if you wish, after all " Life " is a gamble isn't it.
Just my Dos Centavos

I, for one, am glad that Mercedes made most of the more important parts of the car. Means it's more reliable. :-)
You shouldn't really have any problems with this car. And strupgolf, if they replaced that much and now they say it needs to be rebuilt and you've had some much done already, they really SHOULD have just replaced the engine. I wouldn't trust Chrysler with rebuilding a Mercedes engine anyways.
And yes, every once in awhile, someone gets a lemon. Check your state's lemon laws. Might save you a lot of time and frustration.

Honestly, most techs, even crossfire techs rarely ever work on this car and it's a new experience for them. The training course they put these guys through to be a "Crossfire tech" is very short and brief on the training.

Re: How Do You Like The Crossfire?
Ive owned mine for 3 years. I have an 04 non srt with about 65,000. I liked it the first year I had it. It was different. I still think you can't beat the looks. But now that I've had it for awhile I can say a bunch of negative things about it. The ride comfort is terrible. I have to go through tires like crazy! Cup holder sucks! Trunk rattles and wind noise are awful. Transmission is very wierd in the shifting and you have to do the reset quite often. Lastly....the resale value. I bought mine when they were pretty pricey now I can't get crap for it! But hey it's still a very nice unique looking car1
