New sound system needed, need help with the panels...
Ok so I am replacing the Deck, two tweeters, forward 6 1/2s, maybe the 4x6s in the wall, and adding; an amp, cap and two subs... 12" or 10" not sure yet... but they will be the Shallow-mount kind, most likly Pioneer.
I have very Little experiance with new car intiors and dont want to hurt my XF that i just bought! I do knopw how to install everything and wire it all but the door and wall pannels are my first problem...
I bought a simple set of intior door pannel tools so i dont break any of the plastic clips and also a schematics(sp) manuel so i have an understanding of how to wire it all.
but please, where do i statr and with what tools?
videos and or play by play pic would help the most.
IF needed i have a 04 LTD.
thank you everyone

Next to the wheel well, right infront of the acsess hole for the rear lights. i plan on building a box to have the speeckers stand vertical with the front facing the middle of the compartment. that way i have access to the wire paths and if built rite i can still have a bit of storage room.

No offense, but you sound like you don't have a clue on what you're doing.. take your car to a good audio shop and have them do it.. but be prepared to spend $$$..

Re: New sound system needed, need help with the panels...
Thank you for the consern but let me learn... whats wronge with pointing me in the right direction?
I have done this before and im not afraid of tackling this too.
I have found answers to my question and so for both of you, try sending the person asking for some help... some help?! I agree that sending them the advice of taking it to a person who does this thing for a living is good advice but also offer up a link of a place where they can do it there self...
why not!?

Save yourself some time and frustation and just buy my set up. I currently have it removed to save weight during the drag racing season. Shoot me a PM if you want to discuss it.

Re: New sound system needed, need help with the panels...
Oh...and to answer your question. With a quick search of "door panel removal" this PDF was found. This should serve as your play by play on how to do it.
Good luck on your install, these cars are actually pretty easy compaired to most and all topics have been covered. You can search for just about any question relating to the install and find the answer.

My system is as follows:
Alpine Deck
Audison 4ch amp bi-amped to
MBQuart 6.5" component speakers
-Crossovers are mounted in the rear speaker cavities
Audison Mono amp powering
2 10" MBQuart Subs in custom box with grille-cloth wrapped covers to conceal them
Alumapro 5-farad cap mounted under the passenger seat, under the floor
Dynamat completly covering the inner doorskin
Dynasorb panels mounted behind the speaker to the outer door skin
The only "permanant" modification that was made to the car was a small slit in a wire gromet under the hood. not a single harness was cut. Everything can be returned to factory and nobody would ever know there was a system in the car.
Getting power into the car is very easy. Connect your power wire to the battery terminal, make sure your in-line fuse is about 6" from the battery. Run the power wire into the compartment next to the battery by cutting a small slit into the bottom existing gromet. From there, it's a straight shot into the car through the back of the housing.
My amplifiers are mounted behind the seats to conceal them, and given my seating position and amp size, this was the perfect location.
I would greatly recommend running speaker wire directly from the amp to the door speakers. The gromets on the doors are HUGE, so wire can easily be run into them. THis way, you don't have to cut into the factory wiring, and can place the crossovers in the car and not the door.
My biggest tip is TAKE YOUR TIME. Don't rush through anything. There are more than enough factory channels for your wires to be placed in, but you have to take the car apart to get to them. I removed practically everything but the dash of the interior while performing my installation, but it was worth the extra effort. As for removing the seats, DO NOT remove the seats with the key in any position other than off. They are connected to the SRS system, so removing them while they are powered could throw an air-bag light, which only the dealer can reset. That also means don't turn the key on while the seats are removed.
Another tip, any harness that has a yellow connector is related to the SRS system. Take care with these.

Re: New sound system needed, need help with the panels...
great!
thank you for the support and help!
i look forward to getting all this done but ya its going to take time and so im not rushing anything!
I have the new 10" Pioneer shallow mount subs and have idea on putting them inside of the bumbper well right behind the tail lights. it looks like it may fit but havent taken the interior appart a secont time to put a sub in to see if indeed it does or doesnt fit. i would like to save what little room is in the trunk cuz i also own a 66' Mustang and it has a giant box with two 12"ers and the amp and cap in there and NOOO room for much else. Im all for saving space right now. i cant find anything on hiding the subs except for making a false floor, but even that limits storage space...
so if anyone has done something like this or has heard of it beeing done, please tall me about it!
and thx all!
ps, i think my tweeters are going out, havent put in the new deck yet (im hoping that will clear it up some) but do you guys have any sugjestions for new tweeters?

Re: New sound system needed, need help with the panels...
I'm guessing most folks have run power down the pax side and Rca wires down the drivers side. How did you get the rca wires to the deck, did you route them over the peddles through the very small gap up by the top of the gas pedal, or is there another way to get to the other side of the car? I'm goingn to use a line output converter until I find a head unit that I like so I need to get to the passenger side foot area.
