Okay, I just got a look at the invoice and buried in the fine print is that my limited coupe is bright silver metallic and the interior is dark slate/cedar (from what I gather that's a love it or hate it upholstery combo--I have to admit it is a bit zoomy for my stodgy tastes, but suspect it will grow on me pretty quickly).

I have a one-way ticket to Detroit on Tuesday to pick it up and drive her home to central KY. That will be a long day, but oddly enough, I'm looking forward to it. I just need to pick out some CDs for the nearly 400 mile trip home.

While you're at it, pick out a couple of motels on the route home. If you run into a lot of snow/ice with the Alberta Clipper that's coming in, you won't want to be driving your new XF. They are not the most stable vehicle in blizzard conditions.

My flight north isn't until next Tuesday, so I'm hoping the weather moderates by then. I've aready been advised to stop at Home Depot on the way out of town to pick up a couple of bags of sand for the trunk if things look at all dicey. Motels are the next step.

The car is at Monroe Dodge in, logically enough, Monroe MI. I think it's the only one they have, but not sure.

I'm retired from 33 years teaching Criminal Justice stuff at Eastern Ky. Univ., so researching thinks is sort of second nature, and this purchase has certainly given me things to study--mostly on this forum. For example, how to install an input for an ipod to the radio. I haven't done search yet, so there may be loads of information available. Just more stuff to put on the list.

Thanks to all who have contacted me in this forum or through PMs. You guys are a considerate bunch.

Actually, they do pretty good in slick conditions. Deep snow ? But, it's kind of a weird sensation....take a steep hill on ice.....the traction control keeps applying the brakes to which ever wheel starts to slip.....but you just keep moving up the hill slowly but surely. Maybe better than a front wheel drive with traction control...because if you are going up a steep hill....the weight is being transferred to the rear wheels....which means front drivers' are losing weight off the drive wheels. Obviously going down hills is not an issue for front or rear drivers.

To put the current prices in perspective, when I was taking this new one around for estimates on the fender....one of the body shop guys told me that when they first came out & people were paying sticker or over......a lady got hit from behind in one real hard.....because they were so expensive the vehicle was not totaled....his shop charged the insurance company $19,000 to fix it!!!! & in 1995 I paid more for my then 16 year old son's new Pontiac Sunfire GT than I just paid for this 2008 XFIRE.

It is a buyers market particularly for Chrysler products in the Ohio/Michigan area. I recently was able to buy a new 08 Dodge Nitro 4X4 for $13,989 plus tax for my winter driver. (6 speed manual trans. electric blue with chrome wheels, sunroof and sat. radio) It was significantly cheaper to buy new rather than used. This was a surprise and with lifetime drivetrain warranty. I am enjoying the 6 speed manual which will keep me in practice for spring when I will be able to get my Limited Coupe baby out of hibernation. I love the sat radio in the Nitro. You can plug in your ipod to the aux input jack right on the front of the unit. I will probably have to swap out my Xfire head unit to get this feature.
