Default Oil leak

Very new to the XF. Purchased a 2006 coupe limited in September with 13,000 miles for $14,000. A couple of weeks ago I noticed oil on the garage floor but only a few drops worth. Today there appeared to be more. Has anyone experienced an oil leak and if so where was it from? I'm wondering if the drain plug could be the problem. I have had oil pans distorted from over tightening on other cars and this caused the plug to leak. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I believe there have been a few on here that have had this... seems that a number of '06's have bad valve cover gaskets.
Do a search as I could be wrong

Check the valve cover gaskets if its engine oil. If trans oil (red) the CHA connector going into the trans leaks often on all the 7226 equipt Benzs. We replace a dozen or so a week at the dealership.

Thanks for the advise. It is engine oil for sure. I take it in tomorrow and I'll make sure they check the valve cover gaskets.

I had oil seepage around my valve covers.
All it took for me was a quick tightening and all is well since then.

Check to make sure the oil filter is not leaking! I just had this happen to me about three weeks ago. The after market filter I used, started to leak around the o-rings after about 5000 mi.

There's a shield underneath, if the oil was changed & they were sloppy, there could just be residual droppings still coming off that shield.

Yep, This is what happened to me I think. Had a leak I thought. Checked the stick and it was down. Topped it up and shazzam never happened again, not a spot! Mark right up to max. But as long as I have you here.
Wouldn't you think they could have found a better color for the end of a dipstick than brown. My Cad has that same reddish brown color on the tip. Is this some kind of practical joke by the engineers. My Jag's stick is white. Were these things white once? What gives?

Ha, ya... the way I have to really tell how low/high the oil is, is by taking a rag and wiping one side of the stick off (wiping orthogonal to the stick). But my car is a 2006 and I never had a problem with oil leak. There is a little oil around the valve cover, but it is definitely not losing any.

Went to the dealer today and they said it was not an oil leak but a transmission leak. They said it looked like the pan was the cause of the leak. No parts in house so I take it back Monday. Anyone else experienced this type of leak?

Make sure their aware of the TSB:
21-002-05 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID WEEPAGE 2005-01-14 because a lot of the mechanics don't know this car and they might just think its the pan leaking. Was the leak coming from the passenger side of the transmission? If it was it could be the TSB.

Take this guys advice The Chrysler guys are just guessing most of the time. I'm not even sure my guys have a service manual. If they do they sure don't read it.

Thanks guys. This site is worth it's weight in gold. I wrote down the TSB and will make sure they address it.

ORTHOGONAL? GREAT WORD! From now on I will wipe my stick (no jokes now) ORTHOGONALLY. I will continue to wipe my a*s in a linear fashion (even I couldn't resist that set up)

By linear I will assume you meant "parallel"... I do not think anyone wipes in curvy/wavy arcs... or possibly even piecewise smooth curves... or something...

My 04 coupe was leaking, they thought it was the trans. pan but it was not. It was a connector. (covered under warranty).

Well, If Einstein was right and space is curved... I wonder if space is more curved around a large a*s lol.

Welcome, sounds lik a good buy..Let me tell you about my horror story..I purchased my 2005 Ltd Cpe with 17,400 miles. I took it for an oil and filter and schedule A service at a very reputableMercedes Dealer in Boerne, TX. They did an excellent service, complete underside inspection, measured my brake pads, etc etc. Informed me of a small oil leak around the oil sensor housing, and suggested because the car was under warranty, to take it to a Chrysler Dealership. This I did and thei "certified" Crossfire, Viper and Prowler mechanic proceeded to crack the lower oil pan while removing it with a brass machinist's hammer. The sensor was replaced, as was the 8 quarts of Mob ! that was just put in. Said it's ready come and get it. I "got it" alright and drove home. Parked in the garage over night and next morning backed the car out (see picture) and left 8 quarts of Mob 1 on the garage floor and driveway.Really, really, realy bad experience. Took a week in the shop to get a new pan on and 8 more quarts of Mob 1, no charge to me except for Librium. Moral is, know your dealer and service manager, check credentials of "certified Mechanic", inspect car before an after maintenance, demand fender blankets which should be a given, Drive car and park on a clean surface for a couple hours and check for leaks after. If you have problems and you're not satisified, go up the ladder and talk to the owner. So my first oil change took 24 quarts of Mob 1.
