They are not making them anymore.
The company that designed, built and sold them no longer exists.
The MB component has abandoned them.
The Chrysler component is financially fragile.
Most people have no idea what the Crossfire is.
I'm surprised they can sell them at all.

A co-worker was just reading a similar story on another news site, and also cited declining sales of the Dodge Magnum. I, of course had to point out to him that both of those vehicles are no longer in production - no wonder sales are down! He then pointed out the low sales numbers of the still in production Dodge Viper. To which I responded that there isn't a lot of demand for a $100,000 600HP 2 seater so it's no great shock Dodge doesn't sell as many Vipers as Honda does Civics.
Some people just don't get it.

Over the weekend, Mrs Inferno drove her xfire to OKC so she could help her parents out with their garage sale. During the garage sale, A LOT of visitors drooled all over her car asking questions about it and wanting to drive it
My point being that Chrysler marketing screwed up from the very beginning to get the word out on this car. Why shouldn't we expect the last ones to be slow to go?

Personally, I couldn't be much happier with my purchase of an '05 XF last month. I don't have a problem with sales figures being low; if people don't want a German sports car made with MB parts and engineering sold at a US auto price, I can live with it.

As someone who has just begun researching the Crossfire, I honestly am not sure how to take this news...
Any advice on keeping this news in context, or in general, advice on things to consider before purchasing a Crossfire would be much appreciated!

I actually met one such guy today at Lowes driving a twin of my SSB roadster. But, the poor guy had to suffer with an auto.

For less than half the cost of any similar performer, you will get a steal. And now, even new ones are cheaper than a decent ricer or Chevy Cobalt.
Mercedes builds good cars so the service issues, of which there have been few, are but minor irritations. Unless you buy and SRT-6 (cause you will drive it like a crazy man) the car should last 100M miles, with little more than maintainance, no problem. After that it will be like any Benz, not worth the cost of repair but you will fix it anyway because you still really love the car.
In the event you have issues, there are many here on the forum who can help you thru it with advice and sourcing parts and service. And remember, the only thing not MB on the car is the Chrysler badges.
Unless you need more than two seats or room for two sets of golf clubs, (or two decent cup holders) this is the best deal around since just about never.
Yeah, I like my Crossfire.

In response to the prospective buyer concerned about them not selling...buy the car because you love the looks or the drive. Don't buy it as an investment. And, if you buy, you can get a used one very inexpensively because they have not held value at all.
Why, you can even buy three let alone 1 or 2!!!

If you drive one, you will love it. You may be worried about parts, most are available from Chrysler and MB.
There are a lot of folks on the forum that know that they have made the right choice.
