i personally would rather cut springs if possible so i can get the amount of drop i want. i have bought replacement drop springs before like eibach and they did not perform well it was a 1998 chrysler sebring coupe it rode like a horse drawn buggy but on the particular car i could not cut the spring they were too skinny and close together on my current car crossfire srt6 coupe i decided to cut the springs for a lot of different reasons they are not proggressive the car already rides stiff the springs are the same form top to bottom and i did'nt want alot of drop just about an inch in front and a needed inch and a half in the back so i cut a half coil off the front and a little over a half in the back cut the bumpstops did not change the shocks in my opinion they work great but everything turned out extremely well so i dont think its the fact that cut springs are bad i think it just depends on the car so lets compare the sebring bought springs terrible ride too much drop cost about $250 crossfire perfect drop rides and handles great cost $0 and also on a side note whether you buy springs or cut them proper alignment is a pain either way.......and by the way if you cut springs it doesnt mean you don't know what your doing or your to cheap to buy springs maybe it means the people that buy them dont know what there doing and like giving money away for something you can do yourself with the proper knowledge and guidence this forum and the people on it gives...........

That came out looking really sweet. You can always "fine-tune" the height with the spring pads.

I'm looking into the K-MAC rear camber kit. My tires wore evenly after 11.5K miles of hard driving - but no matter how you decide to lower your ride - one should always re-tune the alignment. Now that K-MAC has kit out for the rears for only $320 - it looks like a great Mod..

The $$ saved from buying the "softer" lowering springs can now be spend it on a camber kit - that you would need anyway....

With this kind of logic I don't know why I wasted all that money on engineering school. I could have just come to the crossfireforum.org and learned everything I need to know.

Make no mistake, this is a very helpful resource for a number of things. But don't forget that just because somebody answers a question, shows pictures, and explains what they did, and how much they like it, doesn't mean it's valid.

In a way I guess I should be happy there are all those spring-cutters out there - if I ever meet up with one I can spank them on the first wash-board corner we go sliding into.

I always rue the debates that arise from people trying to save a buck and trying to defend faulty mods by claiming that buying an engineered solution makes the person stupid/lazy/untalented/wasteful. It doesn't wash.

I will acknowledge that if one doesn't have the money and doesn't care about an engineered solution, cutting may be the only option to get "the look". But make no mistake - you will not in the long run have a reliable, well designed solution to improving handling and performance.

Dear Mr. Ppro

I personally apologize for my 16 years of experience in automotive suspension. and for my inproper grammer. will you forgive me all knowing suspension master.....

ok back to my not so good grammer i responded to this because i have not had a good experience with aftermarket springs that does'nt mean there all bad there are some well designed systems out there i sell them almost daily i simply put that the suspension on the CROSSFIRE is a good candidate for this mod and there are alot of people on this forum that have done this mod with great success i am one of them oh and by the way if you want to meet at a washboard corner anywhere you let me know and i promise you i will be in front and you will be reading my SRT6 emblem.........i also drive it about 80 miles a day with about 9,000 miles on these cut springs and its still running great and handles like its on rails.........

Is there anybody on this forum that has done the cut spring thing and has 10k mikes on it since doing it??? If so what have you experienced so far??? Have you done an inspection on wearable parts, alignment, tire wear???
Before this gets into a pissin match as to who is(who does it) right or wrong in respects to procedures. There is alot of different ways to do things guys, some good, some bad, some affordable and some not.Everybody has their own opinions and thoughts on subjects and how to's.
This is the ONE THING that really turns me off about this forum. The bitchin, belly aching, and people telling each other that they dont know ****.
It seems to me that 90% of the input given on this forum is good, knowledgable, and creditable.Lets all try to use this as a resource for information so that we can all benefit, and have some respect for one another. We all will never agree on everything but that doesnt make any of us right, wrong or ********-------------------Dave

I am almost done sharing my opinion on this subject and apologize to those who felt in any way slighted. That was not my intention.

Here you go:

Over a year later, I drive hard canyons roads with no performance degradation, uneven tire wear or any other issues.

I will agree with ppro (to a point) - it's common sense that you don't cut progressive rate springs - but the Crossfire doesn't come factory with progressive rate springs.

I choose this path because the Eibach lowering springs were "softer" then the SRT6 springs - but I understand a bit stiffer then the Limited.

Having owned both a Limited and now an SRT6 - the one thing I really disliked about the Limited was the amount of body roll when I pitched the car into a 120MPH turn (BTW - I have a nice, recently paved 4 lane farm road that I use for testing - no danger to civilians).

The stock SRT6 just eats this turn up - I have taken this turn at 140 MPH with my lowered SRT6.

I did learn that there is a rubber bump-stop on the shock that needs to be trimmed when you lower your car - Eibach suggests you trim this snubber to.

I can't speak for the ride change on the Limited - I only did this mod to my SRT6 - but the SRT6 is a stiff ride from the factory; as an example - the freeway just north of my town is cement and rides like a washboard for just about all cars. At 65mph I do hop on this stretch (but also in my trucks and bikes!)

On night at 1:30 AM I took this stretch at 120+MPH - guess what? no washboard effect - now that's a sports car for ya!...

Brian, any country boy will tell you that if you go down a washboard road fast enough, you only it the tops of the bumps!!! They're not really racing, just trying to smooth out the ride..

Hey Mike;
It's not that often I have agreed with you but your right about one thing. Ppro doesn't know what he is talking about. As you said the Crossfire doesn't use progressive springs and cutting them can sometimes be the absolute best way to finely tune suspention and ride hieght.
On my SRT I used a R170 series spring and cut 1 full wind from both front and back. This was not done blindly I have cut many springs over the years. I also agree with the comment that sometimes those that purchase parts rather than try to alter or build them on their own is done due to lack of knowledge, nerves and or talent.
If you own a Crossfire and want a great look and increased handling "CUT AWAY"!

Hey Ppro, that my friend sounds like a challenge.
Where are you located?
I'm in Montana but anytime you would like to test your driving we could get together and give em a run. I mean this being Montana, everwhere is washboards...
I do agree with some of your thoughts regarding, well you know the Wright bros. got off the ground but that doen't mean they did everything correctly now does it?
If you are actually an engineer why don't you help on some of the issues we haven't proven to work and actually need help on?

Brian,
Thanks for the long term info on your spring cutting.Seems like it is certainly a viable option to replacing to lower. Thanks again----------Dave
