Default Dealer to repair inop seat heater

So I finally took it in to get my seat heater fixed before the 3 year in service date expired. I told them this is a common problem and they looked like they had never had the problem before. Of course. So after an hour of diagnosis they are going to order a repair kit to fix the problem. Has anyone else had a "kit" installed to correct this problem? I've heard some horror stories and some good results stories. It seems if their is a kit, they must have had a lot of problems with the seat heaters.

I was wondering if the seat bottoms are supposed to heat also, or just the seat backs?

Bottoms also heat. My back still works. No problem with the passenger side. Back or bottom.

OK, did you take it to Carl Gregory in Columbus? Just wondering-my seat bottoms don't work either.

yes both the bottom and seat backs are suspose to heat up there are several other threads that address these problems, and there was another forum member that had both seats done even though the passenger side was still working

Make sure they order the right parts. Parts guy at my dealer took 3 tries before he got the right stuff. First he ordered a repair kit but he ordered the wrong one because it was for the bottom, not the back. Then he ordered one for the back but that was for the bolsters not the back itself. Then finally got the right parts ordered. Tech did a fine job once he was handed the stuff to do the job right. No scratches, no scuffs.

Check out this thread...

(I'm about to install the second heated seat repair kit on the same seat in about 1 1/2 years.)
My local dealer looked at me like I was an alien when I said it was a common problem - you have to take into account how many of these animals they actually see!

Yeah I think they cringe when a XF pulls in. Especially a SRT version. They know little about them. Heck they didnt even say aything nice about my car. I had the top down and it was spotless. Looked better than the SRT 8 Challenger they had sitting in the show roon, they actually had 2 of them.

Yea', I know what you mean. New service Manager, and 2/3 new writers. Jeffery helped me this last time and I sure wish the old guy was still around. (Bill Mayo). They treated me well, but not like a valued customer. At least I've had everything fixed the first time on my visits. Hope it lasts!

I didnt know they had new people there. I hate going to the dealer for anything. I can live w/o the heated seats, but hek as long as its under warranty, get it fixed.

Just spent the last two days at the dealership with driverside seat heat problem! Day 3 Friday!
The dealer has 3 Crossfire techs and no one has ever had to replace the seat heater before? So they had to read the directions with the repair kit, this took hours then after tearing the seat apart they installed the new repair kit and it did not work so they ordered a new one! Guess what it was the wrong one, now I am waiting for another new kit tomorrow! I realy do not think my butt ever got that cold! If it goes out again I might sit on a blanket!
Good Luck to Any One With this Problem!

Going to get my drivers side back replaced on Monday. This dealership has never fixed anything on the first try. They blew up my dashboard trying to replace a light bulb. I am also letting them take their fourth stab at fixing my transmission leak that they caused on their third attempt to fix the first gear synchro. Its important to keep your sense of humour.

I replaced the front heater pad on the drivers bottom seat this afternoon - there's 4 heating pads: front, rear and left & right bolster.
All the power comes through the front pad, and is then dispersed to the other 3 pads. The rear/back of the seat is on a different circuit. I haven't had time to try the heated seat to see if what I did fixed it or not - there didn't seem to be anything wrong with the part I replaced - but while I had it apart I though I may as well replace it. Took about 2-3 hours to do the whole thing - if I had to do it again I think I could do it in 2 hours. It's really simple to take the seat cushion and cover off - and a lot easier to put it back on.
I took a few pics while I was doing it, so I'll do a quick write-up which can be used in conjunction with the instructions I've already posted.
