Please Help NEED SUGGESTIONS!!!
Please Help NEED SUGGESTIONS!!!
So I bought an '04 crossfire 2 months ago and I've put 1800 miles on the beast. The rear tires have been spinning for about the last 600 miles because the tires need to be replaced. I knew when I bought the car that the tires were going to need to be replaced but I didn't think it would start doing it this soon. I went back to the dealer around the 1400 mile mark and all they did was take me down to the tire store where they knew a "friend" to get a price. They pretty much gave me the standard price I'd get if I walked through the door by myself. I'm working on getting a better price on some goodyear eagle F1 all season's but I'm also going to call the dealer and b**ch. Am I right for doing this? You folks have any other suggestions?
Re: Please Help NEED SUGGESTIONS!!!!
What price did they quote you? I just had Belle Tire install a pair of toyo T1R's for $530. The rears on our car are huge...which equates to expensive. You can try looking at tirerack.com, they will be a bit cheaper but you will have to pay a installer to mount and balance.

Maybe you should have negotiated something with the dealer BEFORE you bought the car. It also depends on how you drive.
Tires are expensive for these cars. I spent just shy of $1k on 4 goodyear f1 a/s tires. Sucks, but it's the price to pay.
Why would you call the dealer and *****? You have no right too. Would you be mad if you had to change the oil in a few more miles also???

Re: Please Help NEED SUGGESTIONS!!!!
Expensive tires are part of the cost of owning such a great car! Too bad you missed out on the Costco deal (mistake?) a few weeks ago. Got two Pilot PS2's for $262 for the rear of the SRT.
I have the receipt from the previous owner, he spent nearly $1400 for the tires that are on my car now.
Did you know this thing requires 8.5 quarts of synthetic Mobil 1 for an oil change? Price that!

Re: Please Help NEED SUGGESTIONS!!!!
If you didn't have anything in writing BEFORE the sale or on the contract, then you are barking up the wrong tree. You are on your own now, most people know how a dealer works once they get your signature or money.
I went with Tirerack.com for the F1 AS. Cheapest around plus they are/were offering a $50 rebate when you buy a set of 4 Goodyear.
I bought my car from a private individual knowing it would need tires very very soon. Knowing what the tires cost to purchase, I made an offer to purchase the car accordingly. I would never expect them to pay for new tires down the road for me.
Good luck, James

Re: Please Help NEED SUGGESTIONS!!!
let me back up just a second...I'm not new at this game and yes I know I bought a used car. I did ask about the tires when I bought the car and I was told by the dealer that I could at least get another 3k out of them. So maybe what I'm mad about is that at 1k the tires started spinning. I mean I thought there was enough tread on it but isn't a dealer suposed to sell a car with so much rubber on a car? The middle of the tires had decently deep grooves but the outsides were wearing and I knew that much. I feel as though I was misled. Had I known that I'd only get 1k miles out of them I probably would have spoke up a little more or worked a little harder on a cheaper price or a deal on some tires.
$863 for the Goodyear F1 a/s

Re: Please Help NEED SUGGESTIONS!!!
I bought my 05 last November, it was listed as a certified used car. With that said the dealer should have changed all of the fluids and made sure that the tires and brakes had a guarenteed amount of life left on them. At purchase my rear tires looked a little thin, they had me return later for a quick measurement and then replaced the 2 rear tires with 2 new conti's. Only problem was 7k miles later I needed 2 new fronts, did not want to miss match or replace the new rears so now I'm stuck with conti's for the next 20k miles.
Re: Please Help NEED SUGGESTIONS!!!
Everything is negotiable when buying a used car. Sounds like to me the tires were not properly inflated. Besides the way you drive will determine how many miles you get from a set of tires. The rears will last about 1/2 as long as the fronts. You cannot rotate front to back. I have 11k on my tires and fully expect to get another 15k out of them. That equates to about 3 years or so for me. As one poster said it is part of the deal with ANY performance car. When the NSX came out owners were getting 5k out of a set of tires. The next year they changed the camber/toe-int and things improved alot.

There are many many more places on the net, google the tire size you want and there you go.
Re: Please Help NEED SUGGESTIONS!!!
As you are looking for suggestions. If your rear tires are spinning, may I suggest you ease up on the gas peddle and make them last 1200 or so miles. How are the front tires doing, do you think they will go the 3000 miles? What formula or how you drive did the dealer use to figure out a many miles are left in your tires? Was it a guess?

Re: Please Help NEED SUGGESTIONS!!!
The fronts are fine. They were fine when I bought them from the dealer. I probably should have spoke up when I bought the car and gotten them to put new rears on the car. I live in the Lexington KY area so the weather is getting colder and that could be part of it. Bill F that's exactly what I'm trying to do. I figure I'll just try and drive it a little nicer...haha Plus I'm drooling over a set of those Goodyear Eagle F1's anyway
Re: Please Help NEED SUGGESTIONS!!!
Just wanted to defend the Conti A/S tires that came OEM. I have just under 32k miles in four summers of driving and the fronts have a little less than 1/2 tread and the rears a little more than the wear bars. I drive mostly highway and check the pressure regularly. I expect about 35k out of the rears and possibly 40-50k out of the fronts.
As far as oil changes, 9 qts of Mobil1 0w-40 $61 at Autozone. You may be able to negotiate the change, filter, and disposal from a oil change place for < $25 if you supply the oil, but keep an eye on them. I just had my oil changed at the dealership under a VIP plan and -- surprise -- they were out of filters so I had to run to the local Autozone for a $11.29 STP. Not my first choice, but time was limited. The dealer changed the oil for $12.70 using my parts.
