North Jersey Drivers???
North Jersey Drivers???
I bought my x-fire about a year ago in south jersey. Whenever i would pass another x-fire there they would wave or flash the light or at least show some recognition. However when i moved up to northern jersey i noticed several other crossfires in the area and no one seems to want to be friendly with a wave or anything. As a matter of fact one driver with a convertible even looked at me as if i had 2 heads when i waved at him.
Re: North Jersey Drivers???
I'm not from Jersey, but here in my part of Maryland, other XFire drivers either look at me like I'm insane when showing recognition or pay absoloutely no attention at all. I guess some people who drive them just see them as another car and nothing special, not art in motion like we do. Bastards
Re: North Jersey Drivers???
I usually wave and also usually get no response. In my old TR6 days we used to flash the high beams to each other (pull back on the stalk) -- I may have to try that instead. Mostly I see other Crossfires on I96 on the way to Detroit but with the wide median, they're tough to see in time. In my hometown, I think my collection outnumbers all the rest of the Crossfires. My next door neighbor's fiance has one, and that's about all I have seen in Holland MI.
Re: North Jersey Drivers???
I'm from northern NJ and was just there this weekend, though I wasn't in the crossfire. Northern NJ is basically a different state than South Jersey. Northern NJ is basically like an extension of Manahattan/LI, for better or worse. I suspect that not many people with crossfire there really care all that much about their fellow driver, regardless of what they drive. I saw a black crossfire in Madison when I was home and it looked pretty nice. Though I didn't wave or anything since I wasn't in a crossfire. But right now the crossfire is still a "normal" car.
In a few years when just about everyone forgets what the crossfire was and only the enthusiasts start to own them, there will be waves from all owners. The car is simply too mainstream at this point in time, which is hard to believe! But most (not all) people who I tell that I own a crossfire have some idea what it is. OTOH, very very few people (non-enthusiasts mostly) know what a VW corrado is. And those who do, always give a thumbs up or wave when they see me in it. The crossfire is destined for the same treatment.

Re: North Jersey Drivers???
I live in the Northern NJ area and have noticed this too.
We should try and setup a ride. The PIP up through the bear mountain area is nice right now.
That way if we see any other Crossfire drivers we can flip them off in unison.
Have you ever seen my Aero Blue SRT Coupe on 17??

I just assumed that common car owners of something a little more that an object to get from a to b would show respect to their peers.
As the cars get cheaper and more people realize these cars are really quite fun to drive despite what the american press or the people on Top Gear say, more people will be into them. One could compare the situation to the corrado, or as has been stated before, the crossfire following is going to be similar to those who are AMC enthusiasts---small and pretty hardcore at the same time.
The other issue, is that I don't see the XF as a car that caters exclusively to the enthusiast. There are plenty of owners that have these cars just because they look nice. I'm sure some may not even know where the car was assembled. I think the XF is a really fascinating vehicle when you consider what it really represents.
Re: North Jersey Drivers???
That is Joisy for ya! North and South Jersey should be 2 different states!!! The only reason our taxes are so high in the south is because of the north. Ugh, what a corrupt state. I make a decent income although nothing spectacular, but I still cannot realistically afford a $175,000-$200,000 house/condo by myself. And that is pretty much the entry level of a decent place to live that doesn't need a whole mess of work. It really pisses me off. I hate NJ and I've lived here all my life cause of family. ::Sigh::
Re: North Jersey Drivers???
I'm from north jorsey too and try to get other Xfire owners attention in Orlando where most of them don't acknowledge back. Besides, most of the New Yorkers/Northern Jersey folks moved down to South Jersey, like they have in Orlando. And you'd be surprised how many owners don't know anything about fellow xfire owners trying to get them to reply back, since sadly enough, many of them think it's just a regular car and don't even realize you are driving the same one. So they just look at you funny.

I have lived in North Jersey all my life and I always try and acknowledge other Crossfires whenever I see them. The biggest problem around here is people are getting the kids to where ever there going, getting to work, running to the store, blah, blah, blah, etc... No one bothers to stop and look around anymore, and Yes, this part of the state is full on New Yorkers. It's not that people are "snobs" they just don't give a dam who you are, much less care what your driving. I see Crossfires all the time. Most of them not very well cared for. My friends at the local dealership sold a ton of these cars, but a lot of them have been banged up, abused, traded-in and shipped out of the state to auction.
BUT, I have to defend us Northern Jersey folks, we're not all bad. Being self employed I have meet a great number of people. Once you get to know someone from this area, you can be friends for life. People remember people and will help each other out. The key to this area is catching up to them in the first place.
I'm surprised to see so many NJ owners chime in on this thread. Where were all of you this summer when we had several meets within an hour or two driving distance. Oh, thats right taking the kids somewhere to do something, I guess . There are a lot of great roads to drive in Northern Jersey with a Crossfire. It would be great if everyone here on this thread would join in next time and take a cruise with your fellow owners, instead of talk about how inconsiderate we can be.
I have organized many meets for other car clubs I belong to. I would gladly put together a route to run through this area to see the local scenery, maybe a stop for lunch, but there is never much interest from anyone around here to show up!!!

Lets do a Bear Mountain ride before winter. It's beautiful up there right now, with all the foliage.....
Re: North Jersey Drivers???
I can only speak for myself but I was traveling for business most of summer and didn't even come on the board.
My biggest problem is I travel a lot and windows available for events are small, I'm still kicking myself for missing another Fall Dragon run.
If you guys plan something, I'll join in if I'm in town, certainly easier to swing a local-ish cruise as opposed to one that is further away.

I would love to, and I would bring my girlfriend along. I still owe you a few beers right?? Do you want to start a Bear Mountain, or should I get the ball rolling?
This really is the perfect time of year. Sundays are always out for me, we have Jets season tickets. If I have to I could DVR one of there away games but any up coming Saturday would be fine with me.
