The last Minivan planned to be built in St Louis Fenton Chrysler plant rolled off the line this morning. I am concerned for the workers there and the community's propect for the future.
GM and Chrysler would, together, have far to many plants to produce their current needs. Shutting the plants in todays environmentwill not be like it ws when American motors of even struggling Chrysler in the late 70'S Back then, at least, GM and Ford, along with the emerging Asian mfgs were salivating for the capacity.
Today, the Asian guys put their plants well away from the unionised communities that the Big Three have fostered. Perhaps some Auto workers will relocate but the towns suffer.
I don't see this merger happening. If it doese it will not be good for either company as the Government money will end up doing what it often does, subsidize and support a failed system.
As Ron Reagan said,"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it."
Every time the government acts on the free enterprize system it affects it. Usually in a negative way. Can anyone spell Fannie May?
