Default 2007 Dead Pedal?

I've read a lot of posts asking about differences between the model years. Either I found a new one (I think) or the previous owner slipped in a very nice mod.

I have a couple 2005s, and have test driven a bunch of 2004s and 2005s. All have a carpeted dead pedal to the left of the clutch. It's there, just not very high.

I took time tonight to jam my head under the dash on the 2007 because I had been feeling a difference and there is a black plastic pedestal, about two inches high, mounted on top of the carpet. There appear to be covers where the two screws would mount it to the firewall. It looks OEM.

Can other 2007 owners verify. I wonder if one could be purchased and installed on an earlier model -- it does a nice job of keeping your left foot closer to the clutch.

I do believe you are correct, though I can't confirm since mine is an 06...but I have a dead pedal too, just not OEM...Here is a picture on my 04, but I now have the same on my 06...

Jury is still out on whether this is OEM or add-on. Other 2007 owners - do you have a black or dark gray plastic dead pedal?

Wow, I never noticed. This is a factory upgrade. I work at a Chrysler Jeep and Dodge dealer so I went out and opened up a used 05 we have and found a flat incline that is carpeted. I then checked out one of the new 07's we have and found the dark gray plastic pedal in it's place. This is definately a factory piece. However I can't say I noticed much of a difference in foot angle or anything, this is why I probably didn't notice.

I can't believe it's an option (as in, extra cost), but it's hard to believe that Chrysler added this at the end of model life. All I know is it raises the left foot and makes it easier to shift. I was conscious of this because my A6 2.7T MT6 has a much higher raised incline next to the clutch. The Crossfire "dead pedal" incline was lower and not as comfortable nor convenient.

Hey...2007 owners...do you have one of these??

Here is some fact and an observation.

My 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited has a longer, taller pedal in the same location. My wife's 2001 Mitsubishi Diamante has a smaller one in the same location. My 2008 Crossfire Limited Coupe has one in the same location. It is plain and not like the one pictured. All must be OEM as there is no option listed for such an animal.

I have always thought it was placed there to make a place for the left foot to "rest" while driving, rather than be directed under the pedals by the sloping sidewall.

Jim

My srt has one for the automatic, I added 3" additional to make it lign up with brake to allow better opperation during autocross events. Its in my postings if you wanna see more, I used studs to gain the height needed. Enjoy, WOODY

The dead pedal is also useful as something to push against during spirited driving to assist in keeping your body from moving around too much.

I have a 2007 model built in july 2007. It indeed has a dead pedal.

What do you know -- it sounds like D-C added the dead pedal in 2007. I wonder if you can buy one and install it in an older model and if there is any risk screwing it into the firewall?

So - at least we verified another small difference between the model years. Up until this point, I thought the autodimming mirror in the 2004 was the only change.

My 08 also has the plastic dead pedal. I wonder why they didn't make the dead pedal longer though. Would it have cost that much more to add on another 3-5 inches of plastic?
