If the park is .3 miles away, leave the car home next time you want to go jogging. It will eliminate the need to carry the key.

 

I guess you are right on the presumably locked thing. A gratuitous tow would be a very bad idea then.

 

if the dealers can get you a key this is all you need to do to program it, it doesn't need to be towed to them

Transmitter programming by the customer is done by performing the following steps:

1. Insert the key into the ignition switch.
2. Press either the lock or unlock button momentarily twice.

Turn the key in the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position within 30 seconds

 

hey thanks all. yea i usually just leave the car home and go run. but once every 2-3 weeks i just drive there at night. oh well. yea the car is locked so i can't get in it.

it's a busy park and in the center where the cops always sit almost 24 hours a day so hopefully no one will break in. there's nothing to steal anyways. unless they wanna take my application for graduation. lol.

Ok guys i got my key in today. i ordered it friday, came in fedex at the dealer yesterday. i was out of town so i picked it up today.

car started fine. no problems. initally the keyless didn't work, ofcourse, didn't program it.

so i had to get to work, so i just drove 4 miles to work. then as a habbit, when i got out, i pressed the lock button. ummmmm and


guess what, it LOCKED!!!! and it also UNLOCKED with keyless!!! no programming required for keyless!!!!! lol

hhaha thanks. yea no one touched it. the car is really really dusty. sand trail. and it gets very very busy. ppl running there at 1am. lol. cops are always there so it's pretty safe. but never kno.


yea i'm thinkin of taking up a new hobby, drinkin and eating pizza rather than jogging. i seem to not lose my keys then. hahaha

 

If you want to be completely safe, you can take your car in, and have all other key programed to your car erased. That way if somebody happened to find the other key, and just now realized it went to your car, it wouldn't work.

 

Now you have a security issue... Somewhere out there, your old key is waiting to be reconnected to the car...

There's a lesson here for every owner of a German car with only one key. Get the second one made before you need it. My SRT6 came with only one key -- part of the reason I negotiated $2k off the asking price -- and the first thing I did was order the second key. You need the VIN and it costs anywhere from $80-150 depending on the dealer. It took less than a week to arrive. Then you have to program it -- instructions somewhere on this forum.

Whenever I travel any distance I always take the second key and make my wife or kid carry it seperate from the car. That way, in case I lose my key, I can at least get home.

 

Why do so many of our cars only come with one key Did the new,straight from the dealer Crossfires come with 2 keys? or is it the resold Crossfires only ? I am a 2ed owner, but ordered an extra key when I picked up my Crossfire..They sold the key at cost, and thanks to "SHAWNKEY ', I did the programe my self (much to the disgust of the service department )

 

Xfires came with two keys when new. Previous owners kept one key when they sold so they could come back and take a joy ride.
