Should I worry?
Should I worry?
Hello, i just picked my crossfire up today and since i've been driving it i have noticed a few things that have worried me a litte, this is probably just me being paranoid as ive never owned a performance car before and i dont want anything to be wrong!
but..
1. Centre console: the centre console inside is getting rather warm and is giving off heat, constantly making the car a warm place to be.. im always driving with air con on or windows down.. is this normal?
2. Brakes: my brakes feel a little spongy yet when I check the discs they are perfect, do the brakes engage after quite alot of push? or...
3. Radio/CD: I turned the car on and the radio/cd player was a blank green screen and the volume was low but NONE of the button were responding, this has happened once so far today, when i turned the car off and on a couple of times.. it seemed to have fix itself.. any ideas?
4. 1st and 2nd gear: I feel like if i drive upto high rev's in 1st the lag from 1st to 2nd is almost like i am not even changing gear? is there an auto change after a certain amount of revs (i know i can check this.. just didnt do it yet)
any feedback would be appreciated, thanks guys.

Re: Should I worry?
You don't say if you bought new or used and I am assuming you have a 6 speed manual tranny, I will respond in RED from my perspective.
Welcome and have fun! Don

2. Brakes: my brakes feel a little spongy yet when I check the discs they are perfect, do the brakes engage after quite alot of push? or... I had the same exact concerns when I purchased my used Xfire- look up my posts, the brakes do feel spongy but they work great and you do get used to them! I just changed my fronts to Rotex Gold to elimate the brake dust on the front wheels, all of the members who have already installed them rave on the Rotex Gold pads.
3. Radio/CD: I turned the car on and the radio/cd player was a blank green screen and the volume was low but NONE of the button were responding, this has happened once so far today, when i turned the car off and on a couple of times.. it seemed to have fix itself.. any ideas? My radio also has done this I haven't seen many members comment on our problem but most people here don't like the radio head unit, I think it is OK not great, but OK.

1: This is normal on any RWD car. Heat from the tranny radiates up through the center console. It can be very toasty especially in summer.
2: Spongy brakes are USUALLY due to weak or inadequate brake lines. It's usually not disk related.
4: Is your car an auto? Transmission oil has to heat up just like engine oil. Do you notice this mostly when the car is cold? In any auto I've driven, it seemed like 1st would always take forever to shift when I first start driving. It could also be related to you having a heavy foot.

Re: Should I worry?
yea its auto, and yea i have got a heavy foot lol.. but its just that if i change gear even straight away it still seems like it waits until a certain amount of rev's and then does it when it feels like it? so i was wondering, perhaps 1st gear isnt working in step-tronic mode.. and its auto changing as a fail safe not to red line? does it have a failsafe auto up-shift?
Re: Should I worry?
The auto transmission is VERY good on this car. The ECU will learn your driving habits and adjust to your pattern. You should do the reset and then see how it behaves. If you are trying to shift at point that will hurt it or are not efficient, the car will pick the right time to shift.

Re: Should I worry?
Hi Nezek,
Regarding the brakes I would just add that the spongy feel could be mean the system needs bleeding. If the pedal firms up significantly after a few pumps then it may be worth bleeding the system - if you are unsure of the cars history its not a bad idea to change the fluid anyway, as it absorbs moisture over time.

Re: Should I worry?
Nezek i will do it for you on sunday if you come but in regard to the 1st to 2nd gear issue you may only need to do a throttle reset.
1. switch ignition on all cluster lights on but engine off.
2. depress throttle to floor for 10 secs.
3. switch ignition off but keep pedal to floor for further 5 secs.
4. leave keys in ignition for 2 mins.
that should sort out granny mode
see ya sunday
