Clock-Wrench -730 @ Startup/Shutdown
Clock-Wrench -730 @ Startup/Shutdown
Whenever I just start or just shut off my car, a weird looking message displays on the lowest read-out on the speedometer. It's the one that normally displays the car's mileage. It has a little wrench icon and what looks like a clock icon. Next to that it has "-730." What is this?

Resetting the FSS is a pain. If you're taking the car into a dealership, then you're paying too much. Oil changes are really easy on this vehicle.
Remove splash shield under oil pan. I believe 4 or 6 screws hold it on
Passenger side of oil pan hold drain plug. When oil comes out (depending on how warm it is) can shoot out very far. I use wadded up paper towel not to burn myself (hot oil drains faster than cold) and allow the stream to hit paper and fall down to catch pan.
When taking off drain plug, there's a copper washer. Time to replace that if you wish.
While oil drains, go to top of motor and remove the oil filter housing. Do not BREAK THIS CAP!!! Doing so is about 300$ to replace because MB doesn't sell the cap alone, it comes as an assembly. There's an adapter that spins via a 19mm if I remember correctly.
All Orings come off shaft along with filter. I personally soak the filter before screwing cap on, just me, kinda like filling a filter so motor gets fresh oil upon startup. Personal preference. Replace all orings on shaft. Comes with oil filter in kit.
By this time, oil should be drained. Put cap on. Replace splash shield if you wish, some say keeping it removes aids in heating
Fill with all oil (8.5 qts)
Cap on, you're done!!
Takes 20 min +/- depending on how much beer you drink in process

That's definitely the safest way to go.
I would suspect that there is an alarm code that will tell them exactly what the issue is. A dealership might charge you for resetting the alarm but they shouldn't charge you for finding the reason. Good luck.

Let's not confuse the issue here, the wrench symbol is oil change reminder and nothing else. If there were other issues then the check engine light will come on. Wrench symbol is for service A or service B. It's all in the manual and all over this forum.

Do the oil change, sit in the car with the manual and reset the -730. It's an oil change issue. The FSS is a pain and should be a lot simpler but it's not. I hate dealers! Learn as much as you can about this car or it will cost you. Read and read some more.

Re: Clock-Wrench -730 @ Startup/Shutdown
Not to be redundant - The manual is very explanatory about what the single or double wrench symbol means as folks have said - "A" or "B" - and resetting this is actually easy - just some timing regarding turning on the ignition and pressing the correct buttons - totally explained in the manual - when I bought my car new, they had replaced the battery and this light came on with like a -5400 (the car only had 13 miles on it) so I read the manual and even I was able to do it the first time...
Re: Clock-Wrench -730 @ Startup/Shutdown
I've owned my 2005 SRT6 for a few months and it was serviced by the dealer I purchased it from at that time. They used mobil 1 and I've only put on about 600 miles since. When I start the engine the FSS number in the odometer is increasing with a minus in front of the number. It was -6400 and now it's -6900. I assume the minus(-) is indicating a past due situation and I'm assuming the dealer forgot to reset it at the time he performed the service. I have checked the dip stick and the oil is clean at at the proper level.
So here is my question. If I reset the FSS now it will reflect 7000 miles and I assume it will display without the Minus(-) sign in front. This will be about 600 miles more than the correct 6400 miles to next service. Is there a way to not only reset the FSS, but to decrement it to the desired balance miles to service? I would sure appreciate some input on my "minus " situation as well as how to get back to the correct miles remaining to service. Thanks in advance.

Re: Clock-Wrench -730 @ Startup/Shutdown
Thanks for the inputs on resetting the FSS. It worked the 1st try. As I suspected, the dealer I purchased the car from serviced the vehicle, changed the oil and neglected to reset the FSS. The remaining issue is that I cannot successfully get the oil level reading to appear in the mileage area using the procedure in the manual. Thanks again....Michael.
