Crossfire Production numbers
Crossfire Production numbers
Hi,
I am a new member and can't find this discussion on another thread, but I may be wrong. Does anyone have access to Crossfire productions numbers? By that I mean, does anyone have a breakdown of how many coupes, roadsters, limiteds, were produced each year with a breakdown of trannys, colors, interiors, options, etc.
My wife and I have a Limited Roadster and when we bought it 3 years ago, we had to have the car shipped halfway across the states so we could get the exact car we wanted. So now I am interested in finding out how rare a combination we have. If you go to car shows, you always see signs like, 1 of 75 or I had a 1969 440-6bbl Roadrunner, 4-speed, coupe, 1 of 432. If you can find this information for cars from 40 years ago, this information must be available on Crossfires.
To be exact, we have a 2005 Limited Roadster, 6-speed, black, dark slate/vanilla two tone interior with navigation system and optional tires. I am thinking that's every available option except the automatic tranny.
Anyone have any answers? Thanks!
P.S. I'll see all you DFW Crossfires in Bedford.

Re: Crossfire Production numbers
Can you read German?.............Sorry, I couldn't help myself, but I think that's what it's going to take to ever get all the info we all would like to know, to figure out how the numbers break down.
Until then, here is some other threads on the subject.

Welcome Jim! Others here can answer some of your production questions better than I can as Karmann has given them numbers on paint colors but I don’t know that Karmann tracked interior colors combined with paint.
We look forward to meeting you at the next DFWXfires meeting. The group is really growing and it will be great to have you join us.
Re: Crossfire Production numbers
I think there was a thread on this already. Someone asking if anyone knew total production number and breakdown by coupe, roadster, base, limited, and srt6. I think any of the srt owners know how many of those were manufactured. As for the others, I'm not sure anyone really knows. Unless you can read that one site. I know a little Italian, but not German.
Re: Crossfire Production numbers
Hope this helps:
Year[5][6] 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 Production 35,700 28,000 12,500 4,805 2,000 Note: Cars produced in one calendar year may be marketed as the following model year.
The site did not breakdown between base, ltd, srt 6 coupes or roadsters, maybe there are other stats to be found elsewhere.

Re: Crossfire Production numbers
Thanks for you input. I am trying to get more specific than total yearly production. Like someone else stated, maybe I'll need to know German.
It's kinda funny that exact production numbers are available for 40 year old muscle cars when everything was on paper, and in a computerized world where one Excel spreadsheet could have it all, not a chance. That stuff is out there, it's just a matter of finding the right source. Thanks again!

I'm not sure, but I think someone on the forum has actually contacted somebody at Karmann, and has tried to get as much info as possible on our cars. I just don't know who it is.
I have a feeling though, that every option, on every car is documented somewhere in the Karmann archives, and it may just have to be deciphered one car at a time.

Re: Crossfire Production numbers
Exactly what number in the vin code tells you the production number? I added the 2003-2007 numbers together on that webpage and it looks like they built a total of 83,005 Crossfires. I have a 2008 coupe. If I use the last 6 numbers of my Vin I have to send it back since they aren't building it until Sept of 2008. However my MDH number is 092508. Which seems to tell me they made over 92000 C/F. Anyone know the total C/F's built/sold? Thanks Ron
Re: Crossfire Production numbers
I think those numbers are wrong, as I'm pretty sure the last VIN was right around 76,046+/- a few. Unless, something other than a VIN number was used for Crossfires going to countries other than the USA....inwhich case the total would be the 76,046 + the number that went elsewhere???/
Anyone in another country.....does your Xfire have a VIN number like the USA versions?
Does anyone (anywhere) have a VIN above 76,046?

With that, I would assume that my roadster was produced in 2006, and presumable about half way through the 2006 run. What I find interesting is my tires were not made until the 5th, 6th and 7th weeks of 07.
I can imagine with inventory sitting at that time, my car sat in Germany without wheels (or at least its final wheels) for 6 months before it shipped. I can't imagine that with my build number, it was one the 2000 built in 2007.
Has anyone else tried to estimate their build date based on tire age? I doubt it is very accurate, but I am curious non the less.

Hey Chris
I'm in Australia and the last six digits of my VIN are 043720.
Justin
Re: Crossfire Production numbers
Thanks Justin, that suggests the 76,047+/- number is total worldwide production...sorta....
The production rate varied greatly as far as I can tell ....in the waining years it slowed greatly.....looks like between March of 07 to 12/17/07....maybe only about 3,000 were buildt ...with maybe the last 1-2000 being called 2008 models.
