Default Carwash?

Hey everyone,

Would it be harmfull to hose down the engine on these cars? I saw someone else doing it the other day on a jeep.

generally it is considered a good idea to keep water away from the electrical components of your car.

Honestly I have cleaned mine at the carwash...Same method, and I didn't have any harm done.

I'd like to know how a detailer would clean the engine bay. I would think that using a hose or a wand at the car wash may clean but what about spots?

Thumbs up Re: Carwash?

See the detailing forum-this topic has been beat up pretty good. There are some very good descriptions of peoples' procedures.

If you remove the engine cover, you must cover the air intake at the back with plastic wrap and a rubber band.

I use a 30% to 50% solution (depending on the severity of filth) of Simple Green on a warm NOT HOT engine bay, wait 5 minutes and rinse well with a garden hose. Never a high-pressure washer. But thats just me, many do it.

While it is still wet, I use a yarn type toilet brush to clean all of the hard to get at places and rinse again.

Wipe down with a few soft towels, especially the hoses etc. to prevent spots. and start the engine for 10 minutes to dry.

Don't forget the underside of the hood.

I do this every 3 months or 3,000 miles.

Best of luck!
