Default Brake wear light

After 37k miles the brake indicator lit up. As I had Gold Rotex on the shelf, I decided to change them. Well...... for you procrastinators or get to it soon type of drivers, do not wait to long. Reason being, when that indicator comes on, you have VERY little pad left. Don't wait to long cause you'll need to buy new rotors.

37 K, was a lot of that city driving? I had a Beretta GTZ that went way over 100 K miles before I needed new pads....course it blew head gaskets every 30-50 K miles...

The wife drives it in town here (slow speed and easy). The pads are softer than many but stop great. I am not surprised at the milege. I got over 90K from my Dodge Ram brakes and 100k from the tires but it is what you buy.

Just letting you know that when the light comes on, replace then soon or it will cost you!

So after you put the Rotex Gold pads without changing the rotors- have you had any squeaks or noticeble uneven grabbing from the brake pads?

Did you turn the rotors?

Thanks
Don

there should be no need to turn the rotors after 37k miles

The wife said it has a sqeek that comes and go. The rotors had a small lip on the outer edge. I usually do not turn the first set of pads unless of course it is really bad. If it's bad you probably have something going on. I'm just a shadetree mech so this is just my feelings. If the sqeek continues after the pads set on the rotor, I'll look deeper into it.

The reason why I asked, according to other members on the forum- our rotors are only good to about 35-50K miles....... at that point they need to be replaced.

The other reason I wondered if the pad footprint on the Rotex Gold is very similar to the stock pads,, I am considering replacing my front stock pads with the Rotex Gold- my car has about 16K miles and if I don't have to replace the rotors I don't want to.

Thanks
Don

I find it very hard to believe that any manufacturer would install rotors that were only good for 35-40k miles. Next pad set I will have them turned. If they can't meet spec's, I'll replace them then.

I think it depends on how you drive. I did almost exclusively highway on my Saturn Vue until I gave it to my daughter at 118k, and she finally needed brake pads at 142k. They were able to turn the rotors.

When I picked up my used SRT6, it had a bad shudder when I braked. I thought it was warped rotor(s) from driving them through puddles when hot. Then I drove it in a bad rainstorm and the problem went away almost entirely. I now think it was a stuck caliper that was dragging. Unfortunately, I had already ordered rotors and pads, so I just had my shop replace them. I don't mess with brakes or tires on a vehicle that I often run to 120-150 mph. I think parts were $400 and labor was only $156, and I won't have to mess with them again for a long long time.
