Default It Happened Again! Please Help Before I Drop Off At Dealer

Well as some of you know my car which I baby and has zero mods just dies at stop lights. All the idiot lights come on and I cannot turn it back on. I don't get the car to crank or anything. Then about 30 seconds later I can turn it on again. Happened three times in the past week.

Also when on the highway it will buck like it wants to shut off. this car was running PERFECT until I took it to the dealer for the 30k service. I know these idiots did something. I first noticed the bucking about 4 days after the dealer 30k service but thought maybe it was a bad tank of gas. But no, it has gotten worse.

Best part is....................MY WARRANTY EXPIRED YESTERDAY!!!! Great.

So I went back to the dealer and explained to him that I had the problem again. I had mentioned to them about the bucking and they said it might be gas. That was a couple weeks after the service.

What can this problem be? Please help!

sounds like a fuel delivery problem, IE filter, injector, pump etc.

Did you already inspect your relay block? The backside of it to see if any of the traces are corroded. It could be triggering your fuel pump relay to shut on and off. Sounds like the problems others have had. Like a $200 part. If it was your fuel pump it would have the hard starts, no issues once it's running.

I just replaced the Control Relay Module on my 04 which seems to have fixed the NO START issue. Does all of your accessories work but the starter will not engage when you go to the start position ? Can you hear the fuel pump come on when you turn the switch to ON ? If not, may wanna check into replacing the CRM. 169 bucks from Mercedes Benz

Guys the car is RUNNING and DRIVING at highway speeds when this happens

I'm not in my driveway trying to start it, it happens when I'm at 75mph on the highway. I've noticed it happens more when I push the car like a quick take off from a stoplight and then when I get to the next stoplight it will shut off. Then I cannot get the car to start, when I turn the key all I get are idiot lights, no turn over, nothing.

Then I'll sit there at the light people beeping at me and about a minute later it will turn on fine.

AT highway speeds there is a noticible "BUCK" like it wants to shut off but won't.

The dealer looked at it and said they could not find a code. Sigh. So they told me to come back and they will change the plugs and wires. Again, Sigh. I mentioned the coil packs and they looked at me confused. I am not confident this will turn out well.

MAYAman,

Although the Control Module or the Crank Position Sensor may not be the problem, it may be worth it to replace those parts yourself anyway. Its gonna cost you for the parts, but it may end your agony. Heck those parts may be cheaper than having the dealer replace the plugs and plugwires. Apparently both parts can be replaced fairly easily.

From reading the theads where the Control Panal ended up being the problem, error codes are never given. This means that the dealers will never trace the problem to that part. They will takes stabs in the dark at the usual suspects and will end up nickel and dime-ing you to death.

If my Crossfire ever has the "mystery no start" issue or stalls, I'm marching to the local Benz dealer and purchasing the less than $200 Control Module and trying that before I take it to a dealer.

Just my thoughts.

Good Luck, hope you get your problem resolved soon.

I am with Benz on this one ! I'm not one to just throw parts at a problem, I like to eventually find the cause and the fix. But if 170 bucks gives you peace of mind ? I'd go for it ! The difference between your issue and mine is that mine ran fine for a bit then shut down all together and would not turn over till it cooled off it seemed. Well except for the one time I gave the Control Module a lil love tap outta frustration. The darn thing started up immediately.
Since replacing the module I have not had any more NO START issues.

Just my Dos Centavos !

First of all:

1. If the car shuts down with the key in the "2" (start position) then you must completely turn the key to the "0" (key release) position before attempting to start again. When you try without going all the way back to "0", then you will get only idiot lights like you describe.

2. The real question is why is your engine just shutting off by itself. If your cranking problem is related to #1 above, then I believe it would be the CPS. It's a cheap part and very easy to replace.

thanks guys, any pics of where this control module is? Also I did turn the key all the way back before restart. The car shuts off while I am driving not a no start issue. It starts fine it shuts off while I am actually moving which is really dangerous.

Thanks guys

MAYAman, sorry for the slow response but.... in July of 2003 we had our SSB for only a couple of days when it did the exact same thing. I remember posting about it but because of upgrades to the site, somehow the thread is gone. The dealership had it flatbedded to the shop and said it was a loose connection inside the dashboard. I have noway of knowing how accurate that was because they really had little knowledge of the car at that time. They did however fix it and no further problems have showed up.

Good luck
