Default Idling Problem

2004-Coupe-automatic- premium fuel- added injector/fuel additive.
I have searche the forums for possible answer- But no results.

Hi ..I just bought a 2004 and it is incredible, but......I have a problem. When I come to a stop, frequently it idels very rough or dies. Other than that, it runs great. When driving at normal speed or faster, it runs very well. It's just when I come to a complete stop. It does not happen every time. Possibly 2 out of every 4 stops. I lve this car, but this is very frustrating. Anyone have any suggestions short of taing it to the dealer for a diagnostic? Thanks ....please let me know if anyone else has experienced this problem and possible solutions .

Thank you,
Martin

Mine is at the dealership for the same problem. I threw a CEL eventually, so I took it in. They have ordered a part (I'm not sure what) and will will install it when it arrives later in the week. PM me to remind me, and I will tell you what part they replaced.

Mine did the same thing when new. My dealer thought it was the EGR valve sticking open, but when they disassembled and reassemble the air intake the problem was gone, over three years now. I've read on a couple MB forums it could be the EGR, mass air sensor or any leak on the air intake. Look for any loose hoses or clamps on the air intake. You can test the EGR valve by disconnecting and plugging the vacuum line to it, thats what my dealer did.

Just out of nowhere, halfway through a long day of driving the same symptoms started for me. Don't know when this started since it's hidden by the cruise lever, but I noticed the check engine lite was on too. The dealer says it's the mass air sensor. One day to order the part and it's ready today. I'll pick it up later and let you know if that solves the problem. Covered under the extended warranty with a $100 deductable. They said it normally would be a $700 job.

Got it back on 6/11. The error code was P0100. Replaced Mass Air Flow Sensor and everything is fine.

a bad idle can be caused by so many different thing... timing off, maf sensor, spark plugs, fuel injectors... the list goes on..

I'm back. Thanks for all the input. It's actually getting worse. Has died a number of times. You can imagine, just bought it and this happens.. But, I love this car, so I have scheduled an appt. with Chrysler to diagnose the problem. I'm hearing the "mass air censor" might be the problem. So, I will keep you posted. Thanks again for all the input.

I have this problem on a much smaller scale. It only died once and it turned out to be the crank position sensor, but it still has a very small flutter at stops after being replaced. I have been toying with the idea of raising the idle 100 rpms as a bit of a work-around.

I appreciate all the input from forum members. So here's an update. I have had it in the Chrysler repair shop 3 times in 2 weeks. The last time I took it in, the "Crossfire Expert Mech." was to work on it only as the prior two times the problem was not fixed. So, they waited till late in the day to begin work on it apparently, but when I called them for an update, they were confident they had the problem isolated to the injectors being clogged. They began cleaning them and I spoke with the head mech. as I paid for the repairs. He bragged about how good this "expert Crossfire Mech." is and that the "check engine light" is now off and it's running great.

I pulled it off the lot just at closing time. It was ideling so smoothly, no check engine light and I was feeling so great. Then it happened....
All the sudden the check engine light comes on, and the car begins to shake and shutter. I tried to give it alittle gas, but it was like sticking my foot into a bucket of mudd,, it just sputtered and poped. By now, I'm in rush hour traffic, barely able to keep it running and no place to pull over.
Luckily I had my wife following me. I had her turn around and follow me back to the shop. Of course all the lights were off and nobodys home....
Determined to find somebody, I went to the back of the shop and I mean pissed off,,,found a warm body and proceeded to verbalize my
discontent. I actually found the guy that worked on it. Me being 6'4 and pissed motivated him to come a take a look. He agreed to pull it back into the garage and work on it...I had to leave, just plain too angry....
It ran 20 times worse than when I took it in. Unbelievable, they didn't test drive it before turning it back to me....So it cost me $243.00 to make sure it ran worse than it did when I brought it in.

Ok, thanks for letting me vent....I just can't believe people run a business like this. My trust in Chrysler just took a dive to say the least. I love this car, but it has spent more time in the shop in the 3 weeks since I bought it
than I have been driving it..............

I feel your pain.

I feel lucky to have found a 5 Star that I trust and treats me well.

Let us know the endgame on this. OK?

Ok, the mech. called me about 2hrs after they opened. Said they found the problem and guarenteed it is fixed. Said "we took it for an extended test drive". I went to pick it up, all the way there talking to myself...please let this be it...Fixed........So, climbed in after many apologys from the service mgr.
Once again,, the sound of it idling soooo smoothly, just like before...
Pull it into drive and headed for the freeway. So far so good. Now on the freeway...I mashed it to the floor....Oh My God...This thing kicked in like the afterburners on an F-18....It didn't run this well when I test drove it.
It was screeming to be let loose..so I did. Absolutly incredible....
I'm in love.....
So, thanks for your guys support while I worked through this. I have owned
many high performance cars, but this one has the "IT Factor" It has it all.
fast, sexy, and best of all unique. I am one happy man.......................

They said it was a clogged injector. But I think it may have been the vacume advance.

I'm glad you're as happy with your crossfire as I was, before it went to the dealership. Mine is in for a similar problem. What did they do?

I was told it was a clogged injector. They had run injector cleaner through it X'2. They said it was clearly identified by a code on the diagnostic as an injector problem.

After work, I took it out for a test drive. It idles perfectly. And it seems to have even more power when at cruzing speed, I punch it, and it takes off like never before. Just plain incredible.....
