Nothing that I know of. It does hold a can of tire shine perfectly!

I've read on the forum here that some Mercedes came with a First Aid Kit in them. So that is my guess as to what the hole was used for.

As Amick6534 said, the hole was for the Mercedes medical kit and our cars did not ever have these.

Helps keep beer cold (very important for tailgating at Packer games!), can be used for a real tiny spare tire, helps keep semi-useless stuff out of the glove compartment, etc. !
Actually, I keep a small tool set back there. I had to do some minor foam removal to allow it to fit decently but it works just fine.

That's where you put a rosary and a rabbits foot so you can pray that you have good luck and not get a flat tire with no spare on board.

Well, as a newbie owner, I just found the real location of the Tire Repair Tank, so I'm up for it.
What does one store in this cavernous space?

That's where you store the Purina Monkey Pellets for your trunk monkey.

I've found it's a perfect fit for a fifth of Jagermeister. Crazy Germans.

In a thread a couple of years back that space was confirmed as the location of the European required emergency kit (flares, a flourescent cloth triangle and a basic first aid kit).

When my 2004 was delivered the manuals were stored there. It took the salesman a while to locate them.

Mine currently contains a basic drug store first aid kit.

I like the answer about the monkey chow for the Trunk Monkey.

that is where i hide when the cops have catch me going 100 mph down the highway.

the problem is that to hide in there i have to remove all the dope to make space.

it is a real catch 22.

I keep my pair of jumper cables and a flash light and a bootle of goo and a leatherman multi tool in that little space.
