The Best Way To Make My Crossfire Faster
The Best Way To Make My Crossfire Faster
Well i've got a 2004 crossfire with 24k miles on it
i'm looking at making it the fastest i can get it and also still be able to drive it every day. i'd love to make it a track star. i'm wondering if i should swap out the 3.2 v6 N/A for the srt-6/amg drive train or just stick with what i got and mod from there. i wasn't to sure if it'll be a good idea to try to fit a turbo underneath the hood because it's such a tight fit. Or just try to build up a complete N/A race build or would be an amg motor be a good swap also. what kind of swaps are pos. with out going crazy on modding the heck out of the car. how much power can the 6speed drive train handle? What else should i watch out for doing all this mods
i'm in a crossroad on which way i should most the drive train

Welcome to the forum, Pawn!
Do a search for mods. & have fun reading! This subject has been discussed ad nauseaum amongst many a member but my suggestion would be to get your hands on a SRT. The hassle & headache with trying to completely mod. a straight-up Xfire as opposed to just buying a rocket on wheels SRT, IMO, isn't worth it.
Not to say you can't try!
This forum is a great resource but trust me, you have a lot of reading to do !

HDDP is the only one that I know of who has done this.
Check out this link:

Your best cheapest mod would be to get an SRT-6.
Then put on a CAI.
Then a pulley and a tune.
Add a Sprint Booster for fun.
... the list goes on. Lots of great info on this site. I spent hours reading threads and using the search function when I first found this site.
Here are a couple some guys that have a good rep on this site and have quality aftermarket parts:
http://www.needswings.com/Default.aspx
http://www.letmotorsports.com/
http://www.tvtdesign.com/
The aftermarket for these cars is a bit pricy since they are Mercedes SLK's w/Chrysler bodies and badge. They were built at the Karmann factory in Germany.
Hope this helps.
Welcome to the forum and the Crossfire perpetual grin.

1. Nitrous Oxide
2. Buy an SRT-6
Really, go with number 2.

Re: The Best Way To Make My Crossfire Faster
honestly your most cost effective way to get more power is to just buy an srt 6.. this is coming from a guy that owns an n/a.. i have put 5 grand in my car already and about to put another 1500$ in it this week.. there are alot of mods for the n/a but you will pay an arm and a leg for them.. mods include:
intake, exhaust, underdrive pullies, crank pully, sprint booster, spark plugs, ignition wires, cams, headers, ecu tune, and a few other small things to free up hp.
if you want the most bang for the buck get the TVT 250 kit. it brings the stock hp from 215 to over 250 depending on your choice of intakes.

If you want to keep the stick you will need a new clutch around the 300 HP mark. We know cause our clutch is basically toast.
Depending on your budget, we can make it as fast as you can afford. But things need to be done in harmony. Throwing a bunch of parts on these cars in hopes of more power is not the answer. We've developed several products and kits that offer everyday driveability and near SRT performance all with ZERO Check Engine Lights, engine failures, or long term issues.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Re: The Best Way To Make My Crossfire Faster
I think it's important to have a power goal in mind before you touch a bolt on the car. I keep hearing everyone say that the cheapest route is just getting an SRT-6, but it really depends on your goals
If you're looking for something in the 350-400hp range, the SRT-6 is likely to be the best bet. And if you're only looking at going fast in a straight line and don't mind nitrous, then you could expand that range to 350-450hp for the SRT-6.
However, you could also easily get SRT-6 level power from an N/A by bolting on a cheap nitrous kit, again, if you're looking to go fast in a straight line. In addition, if you're looking at building a real fire-breather (> 400hp), by bolting on your own bigger supercharger or turbo or going through an engine transplant, the N/A Crossfite may be the way to go. And if you're good with your hands and good at fabricating, you may be able to get SRT-6 power levels (with room for much more) with a homemade rear turbo setup (don't know if there's room under the car, but I haven't heard anybody mention it yet).
I'm just saying that the SRT-6 is a good choice, but it's not the ONLY choice, and it all depends on what you want out of your car.

an srt-6 is not the only choice.. of course it isnt.. but it is the most cost-effective choice. that was all i was saying. unless you want a manual like me. that is the only reason i have not bought an srt6. you just have to be willing to pay for what you want.

CEL? No
Void Warranty? No
Drivability issues? No
I'm pretty sure Needswings has those covered too if they are marketing a product.
