Default first ticket today

well I just got my first ticket. that sucked. cop was a total **** too. as he was writing me up he noticed my inspection was 15 days expired. he said "oh looks like Im gunna havta write ya up fo' that too." I asked if I could just go get it inspected right then instead since it was just 15 days. he said "well I recommend you do tha' but I'm still giving you the ticket."

I think the second one might hav to do with me being a 17 year old little white kid and him being black. might just be me. but that second one seemed unreasonable. jerk. I'm not being racist, several of my good friends are black. I'm just saying this cop seemed to me to be a little more than unreasonable and thats the most apparent thing I can think of. it was my very first offense for crying out loud! I was extremely respectful too, plenty of "sirs" and "that was extremely stupid it won't happen again"s and he just said "yeah, sure" and wrote me up for both! I almost cried right then. my parents took my car away.

my history textbook has a term for situations where minorities discriminate against whites: "reverse racism". I think "reverse" dilutes the term. call it what it is... strait up racism

Just to put the situation in context, what did you get pulled over for in the first place? You left that part out.

he pulled me over for speeding. I understand getting that ticket but he was just being mean when he gives me a ticket for the inspection being 15 days expired. I mean come on. I even offered to go get it inspected right then and he was still a jerk and gave me the ticket anyway...

I would take a chance and go to court and see the judge. Sometimes talking it over with the judge helps and he will dismiss the ticket or tickets with your first offence and age. I have seen this happen many times in our courts. And sorry that you got double tapped.

Probably not anything "racist". Who knows, he could've just been having a bad day or maybe he's just a *****......color has nothing to do with emotions or a crappy attitude!
Anyways, you're 17; you're a newbie driver. You couldn't be more likely for ANY ticket if you'd paint a target on your car or have a giant flashing billboard announcing your age. Cops look for you guys, especially men. Trust me, I went through the same crap when I was your age & so has my son. ANY deviation in the traffic laws & you're toast.
Best thing to do is exactly what you did, be respectful, lotsa 'yes sirs' & 'no sirs', keep your cool & obey to the letter any traffic laws. Time passes quicker than you think & in another couple of years you'll notice you'll start to get breaks. Whatever you do DO NOT GET A REPUTATION in the town you live in or you won't be able to turn your head without getting the heat.

I can do teen court here where I live. They remove the ticket from my record and I dont have to pay the fine in exchange for participating as a juror or assistant attorney in the teen court for some ammount of time. Im going to do that, but still. The second ticket is what gets me. And the fact that he was so unresaonable. I told him he could check my record and he did. He comes back and says it was perfectly clean but he was going to give it to me anyway...

What does your book call it when you are irresponsible?? I can't think of any excuse for having an expired inspection sticker, driver's license, tag, etc. etc. other than you just think you are above the law and don't have to comply with the laws that the rest of us live by. Actions will always speak much louder than words. Sounds like that black man did the right thing.

15 days. I OFFERED TO HAVE IT INSPECTED RIGHT THEN GIVE ME A BREAK!!! im not the one who normally takes care of all that stuff- my dad is. I know its not a good excuse but im just not used to it. SORRY. i mean come on 15 days is being a little inflexible. The sheet he gave me with the ticket said that you only have to pay the fine if its more than 60 days expired. Otherwise i just go get it renewed and show up in court. Way for him to jug up our legal system with pointless cases like this. He could have just told me "your inspection sticker is expired. I'll let you off this time, go get it taken care of." He took my phone number down and pulled me over right in front of my house. He waited till i pulled into my garage to leave...... he knows where I live and how to contact me. He could come by tomorrow and check my inspection sticker if he wanted (I got it inspected right after that)

It would be good to accept responsibility for the ticket. If you were speeding you got the officer's attention. He did his job writing that ticket.
As any police officer will tell you, once a vehicle has been stopped, it's time to run a check list. What else is out of order? (License, Registration, Inspection, Defective Equipment, DUI, visible evidence of a crime or illegal substance, warrant on the driver, stolen vehicle/tags?) When you get stopped, you're under arrest.

If you did what you got the ticket for, suck it up, get the expired paperwork updated, and do your pennance. Forget what color the cop was and forget whether or not you think he should have turned his back on anything he found.

If he did, he would not be doing his job. He could have dug a lot deeper like checking to see if your car would pass inspection and have it towed if he thought it wouldn't. If he went there, then I might agree with your assessment of his character.

Don't continue the character flaw so common today: to blame a personal failing on someone else, or to scream racism. There's enough whiners already. Count your blessings. I rode a bicycle until I was 21. I would have done just about anything to be driving a Crossfire at 17 (of course at that time it would have been something like a Series III E-Type...

Sorry to be so preachy. I'm really trying to help you see another side to this.

OMG...suck it up and take it like a man. I realize that it is most definitely your dad's fault since he didn't take care of all of those things for you. But, if you could immediately go and get it inspected then.........why in the world could you not have done it, say 16....or even 20 days ago??? Now is when you admit your screwed up, learn from it and never let it happen again. It's all part of maturing and accepting responsibility for your actions.

Well, if you would follow the law, you wouldn't get tickets. 15 days means, well, 15 days. You had plenty of time to get the car inspected. Get off your lazy ****, put the game controller down, quit hangin' with your homies, and get take care of your priorities.

What a waste of time...

Well I'm sorry to hear that you got your first ticket. It can be a humbling and angering experience at the same time. Rest assured that most drivers in their entire driving career get a ticket at some point. Please don't take what I say as an attack, I was not there, and I do not know what transpired with the officer. I want you to know that I respect you as well your point of view. I am just trying to offer some possible insight to the cops point of view.

You are driving a rare vehicle. I'm not saying exotic, just something not seen every single day by a cop. You are young, as said before this may also draw attention, not going to go into its right or wrongness in this thread. You were observed speeding. From what I have read so far you are not denying this. You also said that you only pay at the 60 day point. Anything less you go to court, often called a fix it ticket here in Kansas. You spoke of tying up the court with this, traffic court is full of piddly stuff. They do not try the serious stuff there, as I'm sure you know. Also the cops department or District Attorney may be targeting inspection stickers (selective enforcement) or they may have removed the officers discretion in this area. In Kansas an officer has no enforcement discretion for no insurance, dui, and license violations.

Lastly if you feel the officer was rude and out of line contact his department and file a complaint. Many traffic stops are recorded by in car video. Some free advice, make a solid and intelligent argument before you do this.

Best of luck with these tickets. And I hope that you take the speeding ticket as a learning lesson if you were really speeding. Remember court is always an option as well as is talking with the DA before court to try and resolve the issue. May be able to take your speeding to a non moving violation.

game controller? how about studying for the SAT and 4 AP exams... Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, English Literature and Copostion, and United States History? I know I already said its not a good excuse that my dad normally checks that stuff but its the truth. I WOULD say I guess I should start checking... but who cares? I cant drive any more. Car is taken away.

My parents would make me pay for the speeding ticket myself (as they should) but I'm doing teen court instead so I dont have to pay. As for the inspection, they arent making me pay for that because even they said I dont normally do that. In fact when I first got my car they told me not to worry about it because my dad takes care of it for ALL 4 of our cars.

My daughter got two tickets in one week. Like you she does not take care of the cars incidentals. Like you she takes all AP IB classes. Like you she just took the ACT's and SAT's. Like you her parents took her car away..... for 5 weeks.

The last part was tough on her mom and dad because we had to drive her everywhere She also does cross country and track. She has zero free time.

Good luck. How fast were you going?

60 in a 40. its gunna be hard on my parents for sure cause I go to school 45 minutes away from where we live. pretty much my life just went down the crapper cause NONE of my friends live anywhere close to me, so I can't have a social life any more. tell ur daughter she's not the only one without her crossfire.

on the bright side, I get a pretty nifty t-shirt from my friend. he gives em to anybody the first time they get a ticket. its like those athletic shirts that say "Cistercian Football" or "Cistercian Track" or whatever, except it says "Cistercian Auto Racing" hah (the name of the school I go to is Cistercian)

and just to say it one more time, I'm not trying to be racist or anything. I'm just saying it probably didnt help my case that Im a 17 year old white "punk kid" driving a fancy car and the policeman was black. its not like policemen arent known to have a heart and let u off with a warning... it happened to a girl I was riding in the car with in fact. she got A WARNING for 75 in a 40... she just turned on the waterworks and voilą

Look here's the deal. It is your responsibility to ensure all your paperwork is up to date. I'm sure the cop has heard everything you said 1000 times over. He is probably thinking yeah another one will say they will get it taken care of but once they leave they will never fix the problem. Just pay the ticket and move on.

Tex, take it from an old cop, (Captain) 20 over is too fast and the citation is a lesson, but I would have written it on anyone, blk, white, red, yellow, even green...you are young and we care about you, these citations, fine and all will slow you down, as for the inspection, a warning would have been fine, but I expect in your state it is an infraction, meaning just a fine, no points like the speeding citation will be...my son just got 2 speeding tickets, 1 in Chicago, and 1 here in IN....he has to go to defensive driving school, and the big thing is, he may get his insurance cancelled...you are young, be minefull of your mistakes, because without insurance you will not drive anything let alone what it will cost in premiums...I know it doesn't help listening to this old Dad, but it is the truth...he wasn't being a racist, he was doing his job, keeping you alive....
