My "Check Engine" light has been on. WTF!??! I guess we can't expect a quality product for $3.85/gallon.
You can listen to the story here: http://www.wbz1030.com/
Problem in the gas tank?
At least two automakers have taken gas samples in the Boston area, after getting complaints from car owners that their cars are running rough, and the check engine light is coming on. WBZ's Lisa Meyer reports Mercedes and Audi believe there's some bad gas out there.

The highest gas prices in history - and this is what we get. Fill er up and keep your fingers crossed that the junk won't wreck your engine. I wonder if there's talk of a class-action lawsuit. I'm sure there's an attorney out there who's not happy that his pricey Benz, Audi, etc. is subject to damage due to the negligence of gas suppliers. Count me in.

I am the person in the interview with WBZ radio! There is a very big potential problem here with cat temps getting really hot!!!! If you can confirm for me that you have any of the following codes in your MB relating to O2 aging time exceeded, above or below threshold value exceeded, or short to signal wire then you must have the tech look at the O2 in actual value. You will find that if you have the contaminate in the fuel your front O2's will be very lazy with values .450mv plus or minus about .075 and rear O2's fixed around .047mv. If this is the case have your tech look at the act temps at idle. If the temps are getting up to the 800 degree f my advice is not to drive the car as I have stated in the news report. There is a potential for fire if this advice is not heeded. WBZ is investigating the situation and would seem that the source at this time is the fuel depot here in Boston. Im really serious about the issue as we do not know as of this writing what the contaminate is yet. I feel confident it is not not ethanol as that test takes only a few minutes to perform and monday I'll test my two samples and let every one know. Stay tuned this is a very serious problem. Audi has been replacing multiple sets of cats and O2 sensors trying to mitigate the problem B4 they and benz got together and determined it is neither mechanical nor electrical. Numerous samples of fuel were tested and found to contain the contaminant!!!!

Re: I'm not happy about this...
I use 10% ethanol more often than I prefer, but never had a problem. I'd still vote that your gas cap is not seating properly. That will throw a code. There was another post in one of the other forums that the owner cleaned the rubber well and lubed it with WD40, and that stopped the problem.
While it may appear that the different gas cured the problem, it could also be that you seated your gas cap properly after filling up.
Or I could be full of crap.

Nope. Not the cap. It's running very roughly and lost power on the highway. Going to the stealership tomorrow. I've put some dri-gas in there, in case water in the tank caused the problem. All this stuff started right after I heard that story on the radio about the bad gas.

Apparently it's effecting high-end cars with Planar O2 sensors.

Here's what Marblehead, MA mechanic Bob Ansell relplied to my query over on Benzworld.
As of this writing I must say that I am very disappointed with the progress of this issue. There seems to be a total lack of repair on the part of the dealers in the area. They are charging for a fuel conditioner and oil change that has resulted in an immediate return of the cel light with the same problems. I'm about to embark on an experiment to remove all ethanol from the fuel and test the O2 sensors with known clean fuel. I believe that ethanol is the problem as my testing so far has confirmed a high level of ethanol present. I have a car lined up later in the week for the experiment and will let you all know if it is successful. Stay tuned.
