My new (used) Crossfire needs tires!
My new (used) Crossfire needs tires!
Ok, this Coupe I bought needs tires before it can be inspected. They told me that because the car has been sitting in a garage and not driven, the tires have dry-rotted to the point that they are no longer safe. The tires do look pretty crusty, so I do want to replace them. What tires do most of you recommend? I want something for summer (mostly dry) driving conditions. This car will NEVER see snow, and rarely see rain. I don't want to spend a fortune, either. What is a decent budget tire for the Crossfire, and what size should I get? What size is stock on the NON-SRT Coupe?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: My new (used) Crossfire needs tires!
Last week I replaced my stock Continentals with Kumho Ecsta's from the Tire Rack. Much nicer driving.. a little quieter and a slightly softer ride (the wheel allignment I did at the same time may have helped a little, too!). It was $532 + tax & shipping for the four of them. You can't beat that. There was a thread a couple of months ago on these tires - I'm pretty sure that everybody who bought them liked them.
Re: My new (used) Crossfire needs tires!
Had to replae the Conti's last summer - HUGE cracks in the sidewalls on the driver side - after a ton of looking ended up with Goodyear F1's - great in the summer and rain, this winter found that the traction light blinked on a ton, from what I understand that's normal with these tire - rubber gets harder and tires tend to slip.
Ride is comfortable and I don'tthink they are noisey at all. Overall like the tires but thought that they were pricy - about $1300. installed

No it's like magic - the tires just appear on the car mounted about a week after you click the "purchase" button. I couldn't believe it myself but there you go.
Send this to ten people and in a week...
Seriously, they ship the tires to you and you go somewhere to have them mounted. I took mine to the Mercedes dealer because in reading the instructions for mounting tires there's a little bit of fuss over the pressure sensors and removing them before removing the old tires from the wheels. I wasn't convinced my local Tire Kingdom/Mechants/National Tire and Battery place would pay that much attention. If you bring them someplace, do yourself a favor and make sure they don't hose up your sensors!
Here's my write up with some useful info

treadepot.com and directional tread
I compared tire rack to Treadepot.com and found they both had the same price but treadepot.com shipped free! That was a $43 savings.
FRONT TIRES 225/40ZR18
REAR TIRES 255/35ZR19
"W" rated - 168 MPH
Continental ContiTouringContact CW95
One thing I noticed was that many of the tires people mentioned are directional tires. That is, the tread is intended to rotate in one direction only. That makes me wonder what happens when it's time to rotate tires?
Since the tires cannot be moved to the other end of the car on the same side (different-sized wheels) they must be dismounted, and remounted to the other side facing out before being placed on the opposite side/same end of the car. I guess it's not that big a deal, but it eliminates doing it yourself unless you have tire machines...

Directional rotation tires on a car with same-size tires all around are rotated front to back/back to front on the same side of the car.
I ordered my tires from treadepot.com and saved $43. What's your point?

I called them first, they said that if the tire you want is not on the e-bay listing, they can list it for you. Hope this helps you. Their phone number is on the e-bay site I listed here.
