16, 17, or 18 inch tires
16, 17, or 18 inch tires
I drive 96 miles round trip to work everyday. It is all straight highway and freeway except for the clover leaf which I take at 55. I really don't need the expensive rear tires for my commute. From what I have read the crossfire is an slk 320. Can I just go to a website like the tirerack and order a set of slk wheels and rims? I would like to get a cheap pair of thick sidewall tires for my commute. It sounds like 17's will be fine. Will 16's work or will the be too small for the rotors?

Re: 16, 17, or 18 inch tires
hi,
slk 320s use 17" tires all around. Sorry I don't know the dimensions, but they aren't ZR rated tires nor are they so low profile (higher side walls). Crossfire manual says that 18 snow tires all around are ok - I guess this presumes you won't be doing 160 mph with snowtires - draw your own conclusions, I guess... you'll lose the rake but I'd say 18s all around would do longterm. Anybody?

Re: 16, 17, or 18 inch tires
I hope this is uselful information for the rest of you. If I am mistaken please correct me. If I go with the 17 inch wheels I will need to put p225 45 17 on the front to match the 225 40 18. In order, their tire circumference wil be 78.45 and 78.81. The new tire being .46 % smaller. The 17 inch wheel on the rear will require a p 225 50 17 to match the 255 35 19. In order, their tire circumference will be 81.24 and 81.77. The new tire being .65% smaller. A second option for the rear tires is to put on p225 45 18 with a circumference of 81.59 and a .21 % difference. Dan I think I know what you meant by stagger.
