My "New to Me" Coupe
My "New to Me" Coupe
So I just got back today from my two day trek in picking up my "new" Crossfire. I will have VIN, pics, etc up soon. Here's the deal....
I flew to Milwaukee (MKE) from Philadelphia (PHL) and that was somewhat of an ordeal. I ordered online, checked in online to make things at the airport that much easier. I get to the ticket counter and ask if I need to do anything there as I show them my online printed boarding passes. Since I had no bags to check, only one carry on, they told me no, and head to the terminal (Mistake no. 1)
I go through the terminal taking off my shoes and doing all the things Al-Qaeda wanted me to do in sercurity and I get to my departure gate and wait. And wait. And wait some more after that. My tickets had me leaving philadelphia @ 630am and my connector flight in Cleveland leaving @ 825 am. Weather wass deterioriating in cleveland so my times @ Philly were pushed three times. After seeing departure was after 830, (When I should have left Cleveland, let alone Philly) I talk to the agent there. She looked me up and told me I was pushed to an earlier direct flight @ 6am (The current time is about 745 when I hear this) She asked me why I didn't check in @ the counter and I told her about the guy @ the counter telling me I didn't have to with purchasing online. Had I done so, I would have been gone @ 6. Instead they transfer me to another Carrier and I had a direct flight with Midwest only it left @ 1130 am.. Now I'm heated. So I finally leave Philly "on-time" @ 1130 am and get into Milwaukee just before 1pm central. Wisconsin was beautiful. It was sunny and close to 70 degrees. I was expecting to freeze my @$$ off. Got to the dealer about 130pm and was on the road by 2pm. Smooth sailing until Chicago.
Because I'm not a native there I don't know where to position myself for the merge-a-thon between 294 and 94 so I was stuck going through Chicago. Took all about an hour and a half to go about 3 miles. My goal was to make good time and this wasn't conducive. I've filled up twice once in Indiana and once in Ohio. Crossfire had Great mileage, a lot better than what I'm used to in the Jeep. The GPS had be on the road for about 13 1/2 hours with a total trip of just over 880 miles using 36.4 gallons of gas. About 26 mpg with "Spirited Runs" and Chicago traffic.
Here's the questions I have; and I have used the search function just couldn't get some stuff.
The Crossfire is an 05 limited coupe Machine Grey with Slate/Cedar interior. 18,109 miles for $13,500.
The rear tires need replaced, the right rear looks like a slick while the left has some tread, the fronts look new. Using the Search function seeing others recommendations I think I'll replace the two with the Goodyear F1-GS-D3's
The TPMS light is on and we have a STAR Scan tool @ school so I'll check that out, the tire pressures are good.
The maintenance advisor in the odometer intially said
-2,700 and now says -3,200, I originally thought negative was good until I saw it start climbing, so either the oil was changed and no one reset the maintenance alert or it hasn't been changed so I went to Wal Mart to get some Mobile 1 but no 0W40. Had to go to Pep Boys and got 9 qts @ 6.49 a qt. But I couldn't find the part number for the oil filter cap. Can someon help me out?? I'd like to go the the Mercedes dealer tomorrow and get that so I can change out the oil.
So that's my story...
1.) Tires
2.) Oil
3.) Part number
Thanks in advance
Justin

Re: My "New to Me" Coupe
Congrats, Justin! You got a heck of a deal.
I mentioned this on a different thread but we had some beautiful weather this weekend. Getting through Chicago w/o running into a traffic jam of some sort is always darn near impossible; 294 isn't necessarily any better, it depends on the time of day. Milwaukee has plenty of road issues at times, too.

Re: My "New to Me" Coupe
Probably paid a hundred or so more for going thru the local Chrysler dealer (which by the way I consider has a very good service dept) when getting 4 Goodyear F1-GS-D3's as replacements (after 28,000 miles on the original Continentals), it took 3 trips back to get the tire pressure indicators correct I mention this as if you buy off the internet and have somebody or yourself do the changeover watch out for this for reference I paid $1460 including tax, tire disposal, etc and front end alieghment I think they had so much embrassment that on the third trip they completely replaced both headlights without me asking stating that they were glazing over and were still covered under the warranty after reading all the threads about incompetent dealers I'm one of the lucky ones Hayes Chrysler Gainesville, Ga

You may want to consider Goodyear's Eagle F1 All Seasons instead of GS-D3's. Nearly the same look but you'll get winter traction.

The Conti's on the front look new so I won't be replacing them.. Any issues with differing tread patterns between front to back? Plus any part numbers on that oil filter tool, or can I crack it open with a pipe wrench?
Re: My "New to Me" Coupe
Congratulations on the new ride. The problem is Philadelphia! I've flown out of that hell-hole every 2-3 weeks since October and almost every flight has left PHL late. Worse than that, there was only one bar in the terminal for the longest time. I had three flights that got into Detroit so late that I missed my connection and had to rent a one-way to get home. In fact, during the last nightmare I was supposed to arrive at GRR at 10:30pm and finally arrived at 3:30am, getting to my home an hour later.
Driving through Chicago ain't bad...it's the tolls that drive me nuts. So I bought an I-Pass and the darn thing even works in NJ and NY. What a time saver!
