side-effect of sucking out oil
side-effect of sucking out oil
my dad made a comment yesterday when I was vaccuming out the oil that it kinda lokked like blood going through the tubes at the blood bank.
had a dream last night that I was just sittin around sucking all my blood out, get as much as I could out then I'd wait about 10 minutes to make sure no more drained down, and the entire time I was like this is amazing that I'm still alive, WTF, that side-effect was not listed in the top-sider pump manual.
should I sue? jk, but there have been dumber lawsuits

I'm just glad our cars use synthetic...Just imagine having to do this every 3,000 miles.

Re: side-effect of sucking out oil
Man, I tried the top side oil change thing, took me about 5-1/2 hours. The last two hours were steady pumping on the plunger. I can promise you this will never happen again, the oil change people can charge me what ever they want to and I will pay it. LOL.

I'm a Medical Technologist & have been responsible for tens of thousands of transfusions during my career....it's not the same.....however, recently had a Jehova Witness for who we had to get a synthetic (BioPure)....that looks similar (modified bovine hemoglobin).
I must drive like a sissy......at the 6,400 mile mark....car says I can go another 1,800 miles before first oil change?????

Just kidding. What I did was remove all but an inch of the Tygon tubing; I left just enough to couple the PVC tubing directly to the metal tube of the lid. What I found was when you got the oil hot so it would flow easily the Tygon tubing would collapse. Now with the PVC tubing connected directly to the metal lid I warm the oil up to full operational temperature and I can drain the oil in about 10 - 15 minutes

Another hold-out...
I buy my oil have my filter and take it to a local shop and he charges me $20 for labor and it's done in 20 min. whether or not the engine is hot.
* I don't have to get my hands or clothes dirty
* I don't have to dispose of the oil (and 8.5 quarts at that)
* absolutely no chance of any oil spilling on my driveway
* It's done on a lift that I'm welcom to walk under and glance at my cars undercarriage
... all worth $20 to me & since I usually buy the oil and filter way in advance - it seems like I only pay $20 for the oil change - even though it's really like $100

Re: side-effect of sucking out oil
I found it a lot less stressful and quite a bit cheaper to do my own oil change.
$300.00 - new oil pan after dealer stripped plug (said he found it that way)
$150.00 - Emergency Room. Heart pains from above issue.
$000.00 - Dealership puts wrong oil in car.
$150.00 - Second Emergency Room visit. Heart pains from above issue.
Changing my own oil using the correct materials and torque specifications and peace of mind- Priceless
