Prowler, it may be enough to be considered probable cause (I don't think
so, as perfectly rational explainations have been given) to perform a more
indepth investigation, but no where near enough to make an accusation,
much less get an indictment. BTW, those weren't just opinions, they were
potentially libelous statements made in a public, recored forum. I would
advise caution.

Either way it his not really for us to pass judgment here anyway. It's his car and his situation.

Just my 2 cents
I've gotta agree with this.
If this was pre-planned he would have waited until after the Dragon.

Somebody get out the hose on these dogs. COOL DOWN!

Irwin doesn't owe anybody here a "logical" explanation. Less than 24 hours after a catastophic accident, he does some soul seaching and lays it out where he thinks he has friends.
Whether motivated by anti war sentiment or evil in their own hearts, the criticizm isn't warranted, especially here.

Sell you environmently unfreindly sports car and buy a hybrid. Move to Berkeley CA where they like this kind of bile.

It doesn't belong here.

did you notice the police take any pics of the "skidmarks" or lack there of? on the patriotic side of this i have nothing but respect for irwins commitment and if i was the insurance claim dude i would give him a pass,if i had pics of no skid marks that is.

What did you deduce was the intention of the driver when you looked at the skidmarks?

Karnake I'm not. So I give him a pass and so should anybody who wasn't there.

Coyote, I noted in my first post "I know this sounds like a really crappy PERSPECTIVE on this story, but it's the first thing that came into my head after hearing about this." I'm not thrilled this opinion crossed my mind, but it was based on this story and his many previous postings over the last month or so. If Irwin had to swerve into a tree to miss a deer, it's a sad thing and I'm certainly sorry as everyone else that it happened. My main reason for the original post was based on Irwin's many past posts touting his financial situation, I noted that "he should hope that his insurance company doesn't get their hands on all of his postings on this site". He might want to take note of his previous posts on this site regarding his much publicized financial situation and his car and this accident. I hate when threads do the downward spiral thing. In this case, my apologies to everyone for turning this thread into a flamer. I guess part of what got me going yesterday in this thread, is that my 18yr old son also wants to enlist in the Air Force this year (edited: comment on the war removed, I wasn't trying to start an argument, just concerned about my son). Anyway, sorry. I hope everyone will please calm down a little bit now.

Look... im not going to buy a house at this moment nor did i quit my job i enlisted in the army reserves, which during basic and if i were to be called up to active duty(more than likely) my company would make up my pay, true i would loose some money due to not having over time but i also wouldnt have to pay any taxes on my pay from the military. this turns into a wash essentially due to the fact that i dont own a home with a mortgage... my cabin is paid for in full, and i have no children IE lotsa taxes. i go on to say that having 1000 bucks a month in car payments 350 in insurance and a couple hundred more in other bills makes it hard to buy a HOUSE in Martland when the going rate for a decent 2 bedroom condo in a decent neighborhood is over the 200k mark. i got a high interest loan on my car originally because i had 2 tax liens from when i had moved both were for less than 200 bucks and both were incorrect, took me about 6 months to get those taken care of and off of my record (i didn't know about them until i went to purchase the car) i tried to refinance the car after those were taken care of but in that time span the prices had dropped so much that no one would finance it... i was stuck either coughing up 10-12k to refinance or keep making the payment, i took the 10k put in the car and kept making the payment. i loved that car it was my pride and joy, my mother referred to it as her grandson, i took it everywhere to show it off, had a great time with picked up allot of women in it and made allot of good friends due to it. i wish nothing more than to get in that car tomorrow and drive it not my pickup to the dragon. further more the reason i wanted to sell it before so i could buy a house is because i dont want to be yet another person who made themselves house pour. i wanted to buy an older house to fix up and make my own just like my cars but not quite as flashy lol. stuff for houses costs money... roof 10k easy, siding K easy, landscaping 8k easy, these things add up very quickly as most homeowners know but they are things that need to be done and/or you want to do, i am not a carpenter, i try but...., regardless contractors arent cheap and i would rather pay someone to do it right the first time then to pay them to do it the second time. this is what you call financial planning, i would also like to retire one day... i dont want to start saving when after i paid my 30 yr mortgage off and i like to have money for a rainy day and my other numerous hobbies and projects. so i've completely and utterly discussed my personal finances to try to clear any misconceptions that might have been made due to some ******** comments, on that note after doing this many times now i would like to end with you better hope i never meet you, i dont take kindly to people calling me a liar slandering me, or insulting me especially in front of people i consider friends and "colleagues".

Thanks Franc, but I have twin 24 yr old boys and a 21 son to boot...wouldn't want anything to happen to them, but if they want to serve their country, this old Army Dad is behind them regardless of where they serve. We might not beleive in this war, but it is a war and I will be glad when we are done with it, but I am 54, my flight school closed in late '73, thus no Vietnam, (thanks NIXON) but we were scheduled to go...I still remember all the BS from that war that these kids know nothing about...just isn't fair to them not to support them...or accuse them...I will be moving on...I had this crap on the old Vet blog when I owned it...see ya...Hooyaa...Doc

Irwin, my apologie's also if you felt offended. I say things based on what I read and interpret, and sometimes people dont like it. But I move on to other things in life and dont let those affect me. Glad to see you're ok, and sad you're car is damaged. If you said it happened the way it did, ok, bye for now.

This thread had been getting a bit thick.

Conspiracy theory meets a tree in a head on collision.
Who'd of thunk it?

Come on guys, do the math . . . do you actually think that the insurance company would have given him more money ($11K) than he could have gotten in a private sale? Last I checked they got a brigade of bean counters to make sure that they don't.

By the way, is there anybody on the forum who has actually met Irwin, seen his ride, and his pride in it that thinks he wrecked his car on purpose?
If so please post. If, however, you are grasping at straws to formulate personally amusing theories, it might be best expressed in a less public place.

I met Irwin for the first time at the Tail of the Dragon. I read all the posts concerning his accident. To Irwin: You do not need to respond to these accusations by members. I am surprised that people would use this forum to accuse any long standing member. You have been very active with this group and some of the items you have done to your car inspire a lot of us.
I was impressed with this young man and I know of none of us that could express the loss of his pride more than he did. Irwin made the effort without his ride to come to the Fontana GTG. How would the rest of us feel if we attended without having our car at the event.
I hope Erwin will stay involved with this group for a long time.... I may need his advise on making my car look as good as his. I do disagree with the mesh grille... I like the chrome. ( Must be an age thing 50++++!)

Irwin it was a pleaseure meeting you and the best on your endeavers.

John

This is not the place to discuss the war in Iraq for one thing, it's a car forum. Some may agree or disagree with the efforts in Iraq. The best thing to do is to keep it to yourself or discuss it somewhere else. I am proud to serve my country. I have done so for the past 13 years and will continue to do so until I retire. The military has given me more opportunities and experience than most people could ever imagine. I've seen and experienced things that most people only read about. I've been to places most people have never heard about. i've battled 40' seas and helped pull people from the brink of a cold, watery grave. While most of these people who choose to criticise our military and members of the same were at home sleeping in their nice beds, or at the office stressing about which coppier to use, or wondering when the next golf tournament will be, me and other soldiers, sailors, airmen, and officers were missing our families, risking our lives, and hoping for the next 3 hours (if lucky) of sleep, all to protect our country and do our duty. If my Commander in Chief says to go to war, I'll be there! I chose this line of work like all the other members of our volunteer military as did my Grandfather and father. I don't need your sympathy or empathy, I just ask that you keep your political opinions away from one of the only places I can go to without hearing all the un-informed, biased, B.S.! This is an automotive forum, let's try to keep it that way!

Irwin: As for your car, whatever, this isn't a court room. As for the military, it (reserves included) is a tough lifestyle for most. It is also very rewarding if you perform well (I'm sure you'll be fine). Just don't be surprised at the treatment in Basic. Just know that it is designed to push you to your limits. It's not personal. It is designed to push you to the breaking point so that in a real situation, you'll know how to react under stress. Enjoy and good luck!

CGOCIFER,

You're right. This thread was about Irwin and his car. Should have stayed there. There are threads on this forum dealing with the political. It didn't belong here.

Thanks for your advice .....and your service.
