So I'm strongly considering buying one

What bothers me is that I see 2004 Crossfires listed all the time but they say nothing about Limited. So I assume they're just base models and I'm fine with that. I just want something with good gas mileage, not a black/white/red color, and less than 40K miles. And I don't want to spend an arm and a leg just for the Limited name.
Yup, I know that. I don't need backseats, they aren't a necessity.

Look into SRTs too, they're cheap, and ... just wow. The navigation system isn't too good anyways so I wouldn't recommend that..
I would highly recommend the limited over the base, leather seats, better sound system, heated seats (a must have for michigan), automatic seats.. etc.
Also, I'm 99% sure that the automatic is ONLY available for the limiteds..

I've narrowed it down to the following three:

You are right only the Limiteds were offered with automatic... but than again who the hell wants an Automatic sports car? you must be disabled!!!

Only other decision I have to make is: Should I get one in NJ and drive it down to FL, or should I just get one in Florida at the end of next month?

Too much work, I don't want to be messing around with the stick everytime I change gears. I'm there to drive the car and enjoy it, relax...

I paid $18,900 for mine about a month ago with 896 miles. It is an '06 Limited.

Just bought my 2004
I too was amazed that I could get a low mileage 2004 Crossfire for the cost of a Kia. I picked up a 20,000 mile 2004 that had just come off of a lease. I love it!. The only thing I had to do was to buy some new tires. I ended up putting on Kumho Ecsta SPTs this past weekend during the car's first road trip. During the 14 hour drive from PA to Charleston SC, the car averaged 26-32 mpg and was a joy on the ride back North on the new tires. I do notice that top tier fuels like Shell and Texaco do produce better MPGs. The couple of more cents easily were worth the 6 extra miles per gallon.
I really wanted the '04 for all the standard equipment. Within two weeks of the purchase, I also paid $150 to transfer the powertrain warranty (it pays to read that owner's manual!)
The only issue I have is the stiff shift into first gear, but I found the TSB notice addressing the problem on this site, and I will be invoking that warranty soon to take care of the repair.
I think you will love the Crossfire, the build quality is amazing and even with 4 years of production behind it, I have people comment on the attractiveness of the car almost everywhere I go. All my friends thought it was a 2008. Little did they know that Alabaster White has been discontinued. Here's my baby down by the battery in downtown Charleston while visiting family for Easter.

I've always heard that's the way it's supposed to be.
But in 1976 my Brother tried ordering a NOS padded dash (for his 1970 AMX) from the factory, and he was told there was none to be had. And that was a safety item!

The good part is that the major mechanical parts of the Crossfire can be found amongst many past, current, and future Mercedes models. Indeed the 3.2 motor has been one of their most prolific and successful engines to date.
As for $120 oil changes, one can learn to do it easily. The engineers wisely put the oil filter in a very accessible location. Now tires are expensive, depending on what and from whom you buy, but I just got four Kumho Ecsta SPTs for $704 out the door in Charleston SC. Though not a "luxury" brand tire, to be honest, in most of the reviews I read online, the Kumhos did better than many others like Continental's, Bridgestones, Etc. In PA I was getting quotes on various tires ranging from $960 to $1100. Like anything just shop around and it will save you some pain in the bank account.

Yea I guess I am disabled... mentally and physically...
but on a serious note.. I would love a manual even though the automatic in our cars is the best I have driven..
Re: So I'm strongly considering buying one
Joule,
Did I read you right? This is going to be your first car?
Are you sure you want to do this 'cause you will be saddled with a real problem. This car costs a lot to keep, insure, fix and maintain. And you will have to keep it for a long time 'cause once you go Crossfire, you never go back to regular cars.
I suggest you go for an '05 or '06 limited coupe with an auto and just enjoy the ride. You won't have to impress your date with shifting skills and you'll free up a hand to play with the radio.
Or buy a stick and learn what real driving is all about. Either way, the XF will spoil you. You can't find anything close for less than twice the money, even if you paid sticker.
But you don't have to do that. If you can't find what you want for under $22k new or $16k used I'm sure there are plenty of folks here who can point you in the right direction.
Do it soon 'cause they ain't making no more.

At this time, the Crossfire is still in the front of my mind, but I also have one or two other car makes that I'm still sort of considering. The Mazda RX-8 and Audi TT... but I still don't know. They all seem nice really and within what I want to pay, but I'm sure this will all be settled once I actually get hands-on with the vehicles and take them for a spin next week or so.
btw: I doubt I'll ever consider getting a stickshift. Automatic is all I need.

Re: So I'm strongly considering buying one
Joule,
I would love to see you in a Crossfire but as your only vehicle, it would be quite a compromise. Especially if you have "stuff." I always laugh at comments about the cup holder. There isn't room for your latte and you'll spill it anyway.
Mazda RX8 or the Audi TT both have some room inside. The Crossfire doesn't have room for much more than your EGO which will be well satisfied.
I am with you on the commitment, I bought mine for life. But I have two sedans, a caravan and a one ton truck for times when I have to haul my stuff. I'll trade or sell them off with no regrets.
However, my butt, and my ego, spend most of the time in the Crossfire.
If it fits your lifestyle, get a Crossfire. But it would be a shame to have to give it up because you needed a car to haul groceries.
My logic on the high cost of ownership is simple. if you wish you were driving something else, any car payment is a pain. If you need to pay for repairs to something you don't love, it is a total waste of money.
Short version, "follow your heart"
Life is short. ENJOY
