i wasn't thinking you were going to go that old, thought your reference was to c5s, but there are plenty of c5 vettes going for under 20k..

personally this sounds a bit odd to me.." I couldn't buy the vette so I bought the crossfire"? it is almost like saying I couldn't buy a Porsche 911 Turbo so instead I bought a Hummer... heh

I guess that this is all great news for someone like me who is preparing to buy a Crossfire used? What would be a really great price to snag an 05' Coupe, automatic, with decent mileage? What if I waited 6 months or a year?

I was going to buy an '08 or '07 at %2 below invoice (an employee perk where my wife works), but I've been talked into getting a used Crossfire at a better value.

don't bother waiting you will loose time with the crossfire and the amount of money that it will depreciate withing the next 6 months is going to be no more than pocket change... I personally suggest getting yourself a low mileage 2004 Crossfire or a Limited 2005, If you need the extra performance go with the SRT-6 cause the pricing on that car is phenominal compared to it's competitors.. From an economic point of view the NEW 07, 08s are not worth it...

Look at something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2005-...em220212152749

Awesome man, thanks for the info. I'll definately keep that in mind. I liked that one in the eBay link, though I'd prefer automatic. Do the '05 base coupes come with autmatic, or is that a Ltd.?

Base models only come with a manual trans.

your c using a 911 vs hummer comparison as an equivalent to crossfire vs. 85 vette? that 85 vette will number 1 more than likely never depreciate if left in exc. condition and unmodded, or you can bolt on an off the shelf suspension, and some readily available speed parts and kick the hell outta an xf all day for less than mine cost when i bought it. not a very good comparison at all. besides if the appearance of the vette looks stock it wouldnt depreciate that much either and alot of vette fans like a rodded car.

I can explain my reasonaning for the comparison if you wish.. again man I state that non of this is meant to be in offense I am just trying to understand your reasoning..

A Crossfire is an every day Quasi Sports Car similar to that of a Porsche Caymann or 911 Carrera.. it is not full blown sports car like a Z06 or a Challenge Stradale which driving on everyday roads is like being stabbed in the back repitatively.. the Crossfire is NOT a collectors car nor is it an American muscle or American related in almost anyway.. this car is not for people that prioritize performance above all things..

An 85 vette although clearly the comparison with the Hummer was a bit drastic, but the vette is a collectors car thus does not depreciate, its a full blown performance car of the 80s with non compromising driving expereince.. and only very and I mean VERY few would put up with driving this car on a daily basis, but not so with the crossfire.. This car is AMERICAN Muscle... not a European handler...

and from your post stating that you would rather have the 85 vette shows me one of 2 things either you bought the wrong car when you purchased the crossfire or you had a drastic change of oppinion..

I don't know, but think of it like this a crossfire owner saying he would rather have an 85 vette makes me think um.. why didn't he buy a 90s vette cause that is MUCH MUCH closer to the car you want than what you have purchased.. and it costs the same...

I don't know try this comparison in the case.. a person with a dream car of 911 turbo, but can't afford to purcahse it.. buys a SLK55 instead, um.. the question is why didnt he than just buy a 911 carrera?

To me it just sounds like your a Porsche fan who bought a Ferrari, the question is WHYYYYYYYYYYY?

The stock 1985 Vette with its 5.7L V8 might be able to outrun a regular crossfire, but put it up against an SRT6 and the Crossfire will smack the Corvette around easily...

i think the old vette would be more fun and im a wrench turner, i like buying new parts and adding them and tuning more than anything else, the vette could keep me interested for decades lol, oh and about srt6 vs. 80's vette, say you look at current prices of srt at 25k right around for a good one and the vette for a good low mileage well maintained 16k, with that 9k left over i could spank an srt6, stop wait for it to catch up then spank it again lol, look at dollar per pony! 3k and the vette is running a roots type charger too, use the other 6k for heads, trans, and rear, headers and exhaust, which is possible to do with a 9k budget and diy, the srt would not stand a chance its a 350 chevy for christ sake, you can do anything with a 350, hell jegs has 400+ hpo crate motors for less than 9k

yea very likely... also with the price of the SRT-6 you can purchase a Honda civic hatchback from 1769 and make it MUCH faster stright line than the SRT-6, and have money left over, but whats the point?

But my question remains.. if You rather have the Vette and the Vette is cheaper than the crossfire than why did you buy the crossfire?
