Hey guys,
I'm a BRAND new member, and I was wondering if y'all could answer a few questions for me about the Crossfire.
I haven't been introduced to the Crossfire for long, as I only discovered it when shopping for cars in my Photoshop class. And my questions are: Why is the price for a 2004/2005 so low? I was looking on Ebay and most are around $12,500 - $14,000. Is there something wrong with them? Are they good cars? What typical problems do you Crossfire owners find that you have with the car? Is the Crossfire an expensive car to keep up? What are the pros and cons of owning this car?
My mom currently owns a Chrysler Town & Country, with about 45,000 miles on it, and its a 2007. We have had to take this car to the shop 17 times, due to different reasons, such as a broken JVC joint and other things that should not have broken for about another 100K miles. Have y'all experienced any problems similar to the ones my mother has? At this point, she really hates Chrysler, and I can understand. However, I believe our car was "made on Friday" and am trying to convince her that not all Chrysler are like this. Please tell me I am right when I say this.
Also, before finding the Crossfire online, I was looking at getting a '05 Ford Mustang V6. I have read other posts where member have asked other members their opinions about comparing cars, and so far, I have read no bias opinion, so could you please give me your honest opinion on Crossfire vs. Mustang? What are the pro/cons and the likes? The general price is the same, but other than that, what's y'all opinion?
Thanks for reading all this, I know it has been long, but I would really like to find out more information about the Crossfire. Any information you can provide would be incredible. Thanks

Re: Brand New Member
I will try to answer some of your questions to the best of my ability. The chrysler Crossfire is the "love child" of the Chrysler/Daimler (Mercedes Benz) union. The car is German built by Karmann and is 90% MB parts, built on the MB R170 (SLK230/320) platform. You are basically purchasing a Mercedes Benz in Chrysler designed clothing. As of the 2008 model year, Chrysler has ended production of the Crossfire. At this time resale value of the Crossfire are rock bottom, I paid $41,600.00 for my 2005 Roadster Limited in 2004.....and have never regretted it. The Crossfire came in 2 models and 3 trim levels......Base Coupe or Roadster, Limited Coupe or Roadster and SRT6 Coupe or Roadster. The SRT6 ihas the 330 HP supercharged MB/AMG engine as to the Limiteds 215 HP engine. The SRT6 at inception was priced at $51,000.00 and now can be had at half that price. These cars are mechanically sound but a good Crossfire certified tech is hard to find these days. If high performance is what you are looking for then the SRT6 would be the better car. These are not "tuner" type cars, performance upgrades are far and few and extremely expensive.
Upkeep on the Crossfire can be high, $80.00 - $125.00 for an oil change 9 at intervals of 7000 miles +), $1000.00 - $1300.00 for tires depending on the brand that you purchase. Routine maintenace can run you about $200.00 - $300.00 at the dealer.
Mustangs...IMHO...you cannot throw a rock without hitting one.......they are all over the place. Every "boy racer" has one, the Crossfire is very unique, sophisticated and a head urner.
Pros:
If you are looking a for a 2 seater this is the best bang for the buck at todays prices, and the SRT6 is even a bigger bang for the money.
Unique body design and proven MB technology.
A driving BLAST, especially on curvy roads.
Cons:
No spare tire.
Crappy cup holder.
Limited trunk space.

Re: Brand New Member
I've owned my Roadster since May 2005 and driving only summers, have 26k on it. No problems other than the recall for the radiator fan and a rattle in the driver's door due to a loose bracket. Both fixed under warranty. It's spent zero time in the shop. I'm still running the original tires although they may need replacement this summer.
I change the oil before garaging it for the winter. No other maintenance performed. I'll be putting K&N air filters in this spring.
I drive it easy but fast. Occasionally I run it hard through the gears, but not very often. Lots of highway trips. I try and avoid potholes and bad pavement.
How's that for reliable?
PS - I agree about the ludicrous cup holder. But I don't feel like pulling the console apart to install the "pocket".

...also, if you feel like saving a few more dollars on a low mile Xfire, get a base model, you will not have the cup holder issue, the fog light lens issue, the broken heated seats issue, the crappy navigation issue... basically every toy included on the limited which breaks. (Sorry limited owners, I just couldn't resist. ) Plus, if you get black, the base looks the best with the blacked out windshield surround and side spears.
Re: Brand New Member
Another few questions I have, sorry.
I am sixteen, and this car will be my daily driver from school back home, and sometime places on the weekend. To school, it is approximately 6-10 miles, there, and the same back, 5 times a week. I occasionally go downtown on the weekend, which is about 10-15 miles one way. Will this car be okay doing this daily? I live in South Carolina, and the normal temperature down here now is about 60 degrees. There is no snow, however, it can sometimes be very very humid. Will these condition be okay for a Crossfire that I plan to drive daily?
Another random question, what's up the cup holders, I can't find it in all the pictures I have looked at on Ebay?
Is the interior really as cool as it looks, or are there some annoying things?
What's the best part about the car?
I know I have asked a lot of questions recently, and, there probably will be more to come. However, I appreciate ya'll taking the time and answer my questions honestly. I am really looking forward to purchasing this vehicle!!!
Thanks

Re: Brand New Member
I actually had the chance to drive both the Crossfire and a 2005 Mustang GT before purchasing last week. To be honest, the only thing the Mustang had on the Xfire was the Power and the room. With a V6, I can only imagine that the Xfire would be faster. The Xfire out handles, out corners, out brakes, and outright looks better than a Stang. The Stang felt boaty, like driving a towncar with a suspension upgrade. My Ford buddy loves the Mustang, but even he agrees that the Xfire is a way better handling car, although he likes the power of the Stang. Take away the V8 and you are only left with a roomier car.
Acrispy1, it really is a matter of taste. I live near Detroit where every gangsta from the hood has chrome bling this and chrome bling that, so my friends and I like the blacked out look. And this is my new daily driver and I also wanted to avoid more trips to the dealer to fix the toys. But like any car, it depends if yours was built on a Friday or not and it sounds like yours was built on a Wednesday so consider yourself fortunate.

Guess which one is going to be nimbler in the corners...
As for engines, the Mustang has a much larger "Aftermarket Parts Selection", but then again, if you're trying to compare the Ford "Cologne" 4.0L V6 to the Mercedes M112 3.2L V6...well...do the math. 800cc more displacement and 9 less horsepower.
So, in my opinion, if you're going to get a Mustang, get the Mustang GT with the V8.

Re: Brand New Member
Guys, I have really appreciated all the advice concerning the Crossfire. I have really learned a lot of these cars, and have decided I want one. Now, I must convince my parents that they are good, reliable cars. Can you help me? Do you have some extraordinary information about the Crossfires that will help me convince them. As a matter of fact, can you provide me with any good information, including all the bad information, about the Crossfires.
I greatly appreciate this!
Thanks in advance
