Default Question about dropping gear

So i think this is normal for me to be doing 80 MPH in 6th gear and the RPM is at exactly 3Grand, and then i get a Ford Focus with decals and fart can exhaust trying to race. I dont like to waste gas so i usaully dont egg' any racers on but this guy wouldnt give.

So i dropped it from 6th to 3rd, now i usually drop it to 4th from 6th but if i want to get a good launch and use all of my 'RPM's' then i will go from 6th to 3rd...

Just wondering if anyone else drops gear like me or if you guys go from 6th to 5th to get a boost.

I have been running at that 80 MPH with the tach at 3000 RPM and dropped it into third a couple of times. As I recall it puts you up around 5500 rpm. It definitely kicks **** at that point even being a non SRT6.
My feeling is that these cars will shift at redline no matter what you do so no harm should be done.

ok cool wasnt sure if it was safe and making sure i wasnt going to run the gear boc. I usually drop it to 4th but if i want to get as much juice as i cant out of the motor then i will go to 3rd, and your right it puts you at about 5500RPM and i just keep punching it to 6k then quick shift

you could do like a guy did a few years ago that I raced, he had a new body style celica and somehow forced it to go into first gear while he was going approx. 55-60 mph which instantly blew his motor, I let him use my cell phone to call a wrecker, I'm still not sure how he got into gear.

The gears on the XFire are a bit too close together, I would be afraid to dump from 6th to 3rd at 80, especially since it won't give you much more power than dropping to 4th since the peak power drops off after 5700 RPMs. If you are careful, it's very doable, just make sure you are not really already past 80MPH. You have about 1.5 seconds before shifting into 4th anyways though.

Now in the Viper, 3rd gear goes up to about 120MPH .
