Oil change?

The Cars have a FSS display on the odometer which calculates the driving conditions and can display oil change intervals by miles. Press your odometer trip reset button twice to display the FSS. Although if you have gotten the car recently you should change the oil now and reset the FSS so you know it is accurate.

The fss is that little wrench that pops up when the car is started?

Re: Oil change?
OK, so when you punch it twice & the wrench comes up with a number like 3,500.....that means it's suggesting you have 3,500 more miles before you need to change your oil right? I was just freaked out cause when I pulled in the garage today & noticed....it was exactly reading 3,500....I thought maybe it was saying I should have gotten the oil change back when the car had 3,500 miles on the odometer....it has about 4,200 on the odometer right now.
Re: Oil change?
You are correct. If you let it go past the day/milage you get a negative (-) number. When I bout my first Limited it kept coming up with -265, -266, -267 and so on each day that I drove it. Then I read the book and found out that I was that many days past the recommended time to change the oil. I bout the car with 2900 miles on it and it was two years old! I had the oil changed and reset the counter myself.

Re: Oil change?
The FSS can display in days or miles... if it sits for a long time - it will most likely display days, otherwise it is miles.
Our cars with synthetic can go roughly ~7,000 miles until an oil change.. If you change it every 5k or so you're just wasting your own money, but to each their own.
It'll flash the wrench (or two wrenches, depends) when you start your car up if it is time for service.

Re: Oil change?
I don't drive my Crossfire much, I have the original first year and I've only got slightly over 7k on it.
I change my oil about once a year or 16 months, my FSS has never gone off on it.
My '08 300C now also has a similar FSS but without a timer, just on mileage and I intend to follow it as well.
In the US, people do have a tendency to change their oil way too often and people do have different opinions on who's driving that conspiracy.

Re: Oil change?
I used to change oil at 3K like a good little boy. However, I work on engines and since I use Mobil 1 I now change oil annually or 12K which ever comes first. BMW recommends this on my Mini. I have seen no significant wear evidence in the oil at changes or dirt build up in engines. I use nothing but Mobil 1 in all my engines from lawn mowers to full race bikes.
Re: Oil change?
I've had mine for 4 years and 37K miles. The oil has always been changed when indicated by the little service wrenches. I've been averaging around 7500 a change. I was nervous at first about going that long, but we've got lifetime drive train on these cars. They must be confident about the oil computer.

Uncle Al, how did you get a lifetime drive train on your car? I thought it was for 05' and newer. I asked my dealer, and they told me I couldn't get it for my o4'...darn it. But I did buy the 7/70,000 one when I purchased the car new.
Thanks
