Battery Negative Terminal Corrosion
Battery Negative Terminal Corrosion
I was looking under the hood yesterday and noticed a lot of corrosion on the negetive terminal of my battery. I replaced the battery 4 months ago and cleaned up the terminals at that time. I have the felt washers under the cables on the posts as these have worked well for me in the past.
However I noticed not only the battery terminal was corroded, but the end of the cable that attaches to the car body as well. I'm thinking of replacing the whole cable (its about a foot long), but don't what the corrosion to return.
Any ideas?

Re: Battery Negative Terminal Corrosion
Clean up both positive and negative terminals and cables and then coat them with lithium grease (also known as white grease). Or you could go to your friendly car parts store and see if there is any special product to use on the terminals and grease. I haven't done this but wouldn't be surprised if something is available.
