Yes! The TMPS doesn't care what metal or plastic the valve caps are. They are reading from inside the tire.

Agreed....they will work and not cause a malfunction.

I've had Spincaps (Security Valve Caps) for months and no problems. Here's the spincaps URL: http://spincaps.com/

The OEM cap's are aluminum and so are the threaded part of the valve stem. I had lost one on my car and had just put a chrome one on that I had laying around. When I made a trip to the tire shop to have my 285"s put on the rear the tire guy noticed it and said I should not be running it on there. When I asked him why, he told me that the aluminum and the chromed cap that I had put on could have a reaction to each other and cause corrosion. He said the main problem was that if they did get corroded together that when you tried to unscrew the cap that it could break loose the TMP valve stem seal, then you would have to break down the tire on the wheel to retighten it. I have worked in many different fields in my life and I do have some knowledge of metals and what he said is true, so if you want to run something other than the OEM aluminum caps (except plastic), I would use a little antisieze.

I have used spincaps as well for over 2 years now with no problem at all. As Steve said, I also use a little antiseize compound occasionally when checking the air. If you check the air often enough, seizing will not occur, but I like the insurance.

The most important thing in buying valve stem caps for wheels with TPMS, make sure that they have the little rubber o-ring in them to seal out moisture.

I guess if your really worried about it and want to know for sure you could let some air out of the tire to trigger the TMPS light and just reinstall your cap and see if it stays on.

I agree with Frank, easy way to test it ! I've got chrome caps on mine and had never really thought about "signal strength" til now !

Just my Dos Centavos !

Make sure ya got a tire pump handy, tho !!!

Insurance is good. Is there any particular antiseize compound that you recommend for use with the spincaps? I have a set but have been wary of using them for the reason discussed in this thread. Thanks.

You can buy a small tube of Anti-Seize at any of your local Auto Parts. It won't take much ! Any anti-seize should be fine for this application

Just My Dos Centavos !

Exactly. I picked up a couple of tubes of 'Never-Seez Anti-Seize & Lubricating Compound' but I don't remember which auto parts place that I got it from. As Stogey said....any brand will do the trick. I just apply a light coat with a q-tip every 3-4 months.

I mean really, are you seriously worried about valve stem caps and the TPMS? What did people do without TPMS? I'll tell ya! They went out with a tire gauge and took 5 minutes to check their tires!!

Car gadgets are making people lazy!!

The caps on my car were plastic when I bought it. I put aluminum ones on it.
