vortec sc is $1,ooo, misc parts and equipment should have you in the $3000 range as a DIY home brew. do your homework and read some books.
You might want to purchase another ecu for programming, that will set you back another $1200 from the dealer, so your upto $4000 for about 300hp

If you find a way past those problems, you could rig up 30 leaf blowers in tow-behind and make "mad power".
But if you have the room, turbocharging is a much better solution due to both it's efficiency and fuel economy.
EDIT: I really shouldn't be researching anything close to forced induction on my crossfire due to the warranties I have... But I've been too deep into the turbo dodge community to leave well enough alone. On that note, I'll be pondering ways to get around returnless fuel systems and MAF setups for a good long while.

Re: turbo crossfire
You want some advice? Don't get your hopes up. 340 on this drivetrain is asking to spend A LOT more money upgrading. Why do you think the SRT6 wasn't offered with our 6 speed manual? Think more conservatively... 300.
And the chances of anybody "tuning" (I cringe every time I hear you guys use this word) a naturally aspirated DaimlerChrysler engine controller to support boost is almost laughable. Chrysler has worked in proprietary algorythm based software for decades. Just now a few very innovative people are breaking engine controller code for early 90's turbo Dodges. The SRT-4's NGC controllers have 100x the code of those old systems... now try to imagine what Mercedes brought to the table.
This isn't a Honda. There are no tuning tools. And Bubba's speedshop doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell at identifying MAF, Timing, or Fuel tables let alone "tuning" them.
Total standalone or a Piggyback setup are your only hopes for forced induction. And nobody makes a piggyback that meshes gracefully with the systems in your Mercedes. You'll need to work to trick the car's ECU into doing what you need most of the time.
In short. Forced Induction on these cars is very tricky. With enough money you can make it easier, but usually not worth the difference. You need a very innovative thinker to make a "cheap" forced induction solution. So stick around and see what happens.

Re: turbo crossfire
I guess you have trouble reading, I said kleeman can reprogram your ecu for $1000, for low boost kit. I just solved your biggest hurdle now lets get crack a lackin'

In reality.......I know it can be done......but at what price is more the question. I've had the Mercedes "STAR" software computer and breakout box hooked up on my car before and I have seen what it can do. I firmly believe that if someone is good enough, and has enough knowledge to make these cars work reliably with any type of aftermarket forced induction.........they are not going to do it cheap!
Re: turbo crossfire
you may be right but in all honesty i hope i prove you wrong lol. i mean who knows. only one way to find out. all i have to do is save up my money. im tryin to see if they may even like give me a partial sponsorship or sumthin. but i mean you only live once might as well have fun and try new things. i mean hell im only 18. this isnt my dream car lol. its a great car but in all honesty once i start makin money i cant wai to get my hands on a new vette and an old schoolvette. they have always bin my fav. cars
Re: turbo crossfire
yea i dont doubt that at all. like i plan on spending around 3-4 grand. and hopefully see low to mid 13's. tvt is sayin theyre gonna be in the 13.9 area in march. if they come out with a crossfire that gets mid to low 13's off their stuff without a turbo and for around that same price then id really be stumped on what to do.
