Default MB small shop

Has anyone tried taking their car to a small MB shop? Will they work on the car, and get paid from Chrysler?

I have a terrible rear end whine, and now my fuel door, and I hate the thought of taking it to a dealer.

We are going to check tomorrow with the MB dealer that works on my hubbys car to see if they can work on my car. Keeping fingers crossed!

Have you had such a bad experience with your Chrysler dealer that you won't consider using the dealer? Are there any other Chrysler dealers in the area to try?

I don't believe Chrysler will pay anybody other than an authrized dealer to do warranty work.

I haven't had any really bad experiences with our Chrysler dealer. Hummm, just had the oil changed least week, paid $118.00 for it, hubby check the oil today because the engine light came on, it's down 2 quarts. No leaks anywhere. Guy did not set the mileage thing back for me. I'm sure he didn't even know it needed to be done.

When I took the car in for the oil change, I had them give me a tech to got with me to hear the whine, tech told the guy the writes up the paper work, he heard it. He was not a Crossfire tech, never had been in one before I took him out.

The guy who was writting up my oil change paper said to bring the car in, I would receive a loaner for 5 days at no cost to me. (Extended Warranty)...but once they take the rear end apart to find the problem, then order the parts, what ever they may be or where ever they might come from, it could be longer than the 5 days. And then the rental is on me.....He had no idea how long any of this could take. And when I have asked him before, when I have gone in, if they have had any problems with any Crossfire sold, coming in, of course not!

What worries me is, why didn't the trained Crossfire tech go out with me? Do they really have one? That's why using the shop we know, at least I can trust them with my car, and not just anyone that is not busy at the dealership.

One thing is for sure, the oil level shouldn't be down two quarts. Why not take the car back to the dealership and tell them about the oil and the need to reset the maintenance indicator. I wonder if the technician knew how many quarts of oil the engine takes? If he didn't there is a real problem at that dealerhip. Did you check how many quarts of Mobil 1 you were charged for?

And, then tell them you want the rear-end checked. Tell them if there is a problem to order the part(s) and then they can have the car to exchange the faulty part. Surely it wouldn't take five days to change out the rear-end.

There was some bad info in an early version some repair publication that said the cars only took 6.1 quarts.

https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...hlight=6.1+oil

Your Tech, especially given your description, might not have the correct fill information.

How many quarts are shown on the invoice?

Going to MB small shops will become the norm for Xfire owners after either of the following comes about:

1. Their warrantees run out.
2. Their Chrysler dealer no long has a MB tech.
3. They get fed up with their dealer

I used to do my own oil changes before it got to be such a big hassle trying to find a shop that would take the waste oil off my hands. Now I drop in at my local "Wally World" pick up 9 quarts of Mobil One (cheapest place I've found), stop at the neighborhood "Auto Z" for the filter (Wally World doesn't stock MB filters) and proceed to the Quick Lube place where they charge me 10 bucks for 30 minutes worth of labor to drop the oil and filter.

Maybe an option to consider before takin it to the Chrysler Stealer to change the oil ! It's a whole lot cheaper than 118 bucks and comin up two quarts short !

Just my dos centavos !

If your local Wal-Mart has a Tire & Lube department, it might take back your used motor oil. The ones in CT do.

Also Auto Zones, O'Reilly's, Jiffy Lubes, Pep Boys & more.

Go to http://earth911.org , go to the top center of the screen and put in "Used Motor Oil" and where you want to recylcle it and it will give you several choices in your area.

I called the dealer today. It shows 8 quarts only, on the Invoice Not sure I even believe that!

I asked the service manager if they had any Crossfire Tech in their shop, and he said they have 2. Got their names I did ask him if we could take the car to a MB dealer for the rear end work, and he told me No. He daid the work had to be done at a "Chyrsler Dealer". So I asked him if they would work on my hubbys MB car, and he said No way....

Sure seems odd that we can't go to MB for work. Makes me wonder why we can't, if Chrysler doesn't even work on MB's
