Just for the record. The greater Washington/Maryland allows crossfire owners to get mercedes benz designated license plates. Of course they get $25.00 for each tag purchase.

The picture shows the star and the the Logo " Mercedes Benz Club of American" with a four digit number in the same colors of the standard Maryland Plate. Cost is $70 per year. Since the standard vanity plate cost
$ 45 @ year, I assume that the club gets $25.

I looked at the Crossfire when it first came out. It was overpriced but I loved the coupe's look.At the time my wife wanted one but I was not going to buy a $36000 chrysler. Never liked chrysler products In 2006 I bought a Solstice and after 1 1/2 years was convinced it was crap!!! Sold it to Carmax. On my way to York one weekend I saw a used Crossfire roadster for $23000 had 3000 miles, wife loved it so I started to check out the car. Learned it was a Mercedes . I found a used one owner In Windber P.A. base 20000 miles , bought it for $13997 . What a steal!!!! We drove it for about a year , weekends only! I love this car. The next year we went back to the same dealer and bought a 04 limited coupe 11000 miles for the same price!!! another steal !!! We have the coupe and the roadster , fantastic cars no problems at all. I would not have bought this car if I thought it was a Chrysler!!!

Does everybody remember the movie "Miracle on 34th. Street" where they ruled the Santa that they had on trial was indeed the "REAL" Santa. Simply because he received tons of mail addressed only to Santa while he was in the Court House, because it's against the law for the Post Office (a branch of the Federal Government) to knowingly misdirect the mail.

So using the same logic, I would think it would be considered VERY wrong for the DMV's of Maryland, and the District of Columbia (Home of our Federal Government) to knowingly misrepresent any vehicle by issuing a bogus license plate that it didn't deserve.
This then should be the "definitive" answer as to what a Crossfire should be considered. Chrysler or Mercedes?

How is it being misrepresented? What chrysler parts or design are on the crossfire? It shares absolutely nothing with any chrysler sold nor or previously. Should the Fiat 500's that are rumored to be sold through chrysler dealers not be eligible to have Fiat license plates on them (if one exists)?

AllEuro, Maybe I didn't make myself clear. What I was trying to point out is, if the DMV's of DC/Maryland will issue a Mercedes plate to a Crossfire, and since they're branches of STATE governments, it must be considered valid. (Think of it as vindication for all of us who believe the Crossfire is really a Mercedes).

Ah--I was taking your post from the completely different point of view. My apologies.

My question now is, do owners of the new "Smart" cars enjoy the same Mercedes License Plate privilege as well?

As long as one pays the money, and your plate is not on the no-no list.

The DMV will give it to you.

Anyone know where I can find a set of DeSoto badges?
I could be wrong but IT had four rubber tires and...
my Crossfire has four rubber tires!
I can understand the the desire for the re-badging. My SRT is so sleak with it being dropped and extreamly rare here in these parts. People sometimes almost sound disapointed when they hear it is a Chrysler.

That's right. It's who makes the car. The badge is just marketing.....

We don't need no stinking badges....

In 1982, if you bought this car, did you really buy a Caddy? The badge said Cadillac.

The horror. Everything that was wrong, venal, lazy and mendacious about GM in the 1980s was crystallized in this flagrant insult to the good name and fine customers of Cadillac. Spooked by the success of premium small cars from Mercedes-Benz, GM elected to rebadge its awful mass-market J-platform sedans, load them up with chintzy fabrics and accessories and call them "Cimarron, by Cadillac." Wha...? Who? Seeking an even hotter circle of hell, GM priced these pseudo-caddies (with four-speed manual transmissions, no less) thousands more than their Chevy Cavalier siblings. This bit of temporizing nearly killed Cadillac and remains its biggest shame

My 95 talon tsi was build by DSM (Mitsubishi) for Eagle which was an off shoot of Chrysler. DId the fact that eagle shut down hinder chrsler from adopting this sales technique again with our cars.

LOL.
I am more confused than anyone, as I have THREE Psuedo-Benzes. The SRT, Smart Roadster and Smart Forfour BRABUS.
That last one adds extra confusion, as I can say "It's a Smart"-doesn't sound exclusive, "It's a Benz"-sounds exclusive or "It's a BRABUS"-the one I'd choose.
As for the '6....yea, It's a Chrysler. That being said, I then say it's basically a rebadged SLK 32. And I have the SRT engine plate to minimize confusion.
