Default Auto Gear Box selects best gear for passing

I was doing a little reading of some reviews on our crossfires and found a interesting bit of info on the automatic transmission. I copied the text which reads:

"It has the usual Mercedes left-right for up-down sequential manual override, plus the same feature as found in an AMG Mercedes: hold the selector in the downchange position for a couple of seconds, and it automatically selects the gear that will give the best overtaking performance from the current speed. As for names, Mercedes's Sequentronic gives way here to AutoStick."

Sorry for posting this if it's something everyone already knew,

I have a manual but thats very interesting... however I'd like to know if that stands true in real life? Have you tried it out yet? Thats one cool thing about this car and about Mercedes Benz in general... all the little surprising features that you might not know about without doing some reading.

I haven't had the opportunity to try it out yet. 2 reasons for that:

1. I live in buffalo and we are having a snowstorm at the moment and there is about 3 to 4 inches of snow on the ground.

2. My girlfriend has my crossfire today!! I am just a little stressed about that considering the weather!!

Once I try it out I will post how it works......

what particularly peaked my interest was that while driving home down the 95 corridor in VA two nights ago a late model E-class MB and I were running and gunning in good fun. He would would speed way up and then slow down to stay with me. But sometimes when he hit the accelerator his car would take off whereas mine, in sixth gear even, did not have the same pick up as his between the 90 to 110mph range. I am thinking that its a result of the automatic downshift in the Mercedes automatic tranny that allowed for this. Perhaps if I had shifted down to 5th gear too it would have had the same effect. I'm glad I didn't though because I could smell this guys oil burning on those sprints... literally!
