CROSSFIRE TAKES DOWN RX-8...owner
Re: CROSSFIRE TAKES DOWN RX-8...owner
Well, having owned an RX-8 for a couple years before buying a Crossfire, the crap talk in this thread is laughable.
Both cars have merit. Frankly, I liked my RX-8 better, but the Crossfire has been fun too.
Styling: they both have love it or hate it elements to them...everyone likes what they like
Straight line: non-SRT vs. RX-8 has got to be pretty much a draw, though they feel completely different...xfire is all low-end torque while the 8 is all high revving hp. In typical daily driving, the xfire definitely feels faster, but in an all out straight line run, I think it would be a toss-up. SRT6 would clearly walk an RX-8 in a straight line.
Handling: this is a no-brainer to the RX-8...there's a good reason the RX-8 is in a significantly faster autocross class (and it's winning national championships there)...it's lighter, balanced much better, and has significantly better steering.
Other stuff: rotary gas mileage is woeful...my xfire does waaaaay better. Crossfire has the advantage sound-wise too...comparing both stock and autox exhaust setups that I had for each. Practicality-wise, the RX-8 is pretty tough to beat for a sporty car. As for the engine recall stuff, yeah, some cars had problems, but few cars actually had engines replaced...mine went in for that recall...I got a couple new spark plugs and an ecu flash, not a new engine. I never had any reliability issues in 50k miles. Only 9k on the xfire and no significant issues so far...although I do have some oil seeping from the valve cover gasket that I need to have the dealer look at.

BUUUUT, you can pick up a used 04 RX-8 for almost that mcuh, they are quite cheap now unfortunately. We've definitely had a lot of new 16 year old drivers in our forum recently becaue of how easy they are to get now.
So many "LOL MY FIRST DRIFT" threads

Of course I wasn't in it to win it but I had a lot of fun doing it!
And I'm guessing since you work full time that means you dropped out of school to get yer Gee Ee Dee?

Shini,
I welcome the jabs... I love good humor. Every car (short of a Yugo) has merit. I had looked at the RX-8's myself for a while. When the SRT6 came out in 2005, I was in love. The performance and the style just caught my eye. I could not afford one at the time and had to wait until I found one nearly a year later for $9k off the sticker. (Now I cry that they are less than my pay off amount )
As stated by NoCones, they are both great cars.
Oh, and funny you should mention "Drift". You can't even do that in a Crossfire unless you disconnect the Yaw sensor.
Stick around... ignore the childishness and name calling and just hang. We all have one thing in common... we have a loose nut behind the wheel.
Cheers!

Seriously man, this is all in good fun, on a scale of 1-10, you were about at a 3 or 4 when it came to "going too far", now you're at a 7! Gonna need you to take it down a notch tiger, you're getting a little too feisty for what the situation requires.

The 8 is kind of the same way, the DSC stays on a little bit even after you push the button, you have to hold it for 10 seconds and then the little light that normally comes up and flashses when you have no traction stays lit until you turn the car off, that's when you know it's fully off.

There's a lot of guys on our forum that have gotten up to 100k no problem in the 8, keep up the maintence and the revs and you should have another 50k miles without any issues
They are both good cars, and they both have some left-field styling idea's, but in my opinion, they pull it off just fine. Some people will like another more than the other, but that's okay, because as long as you're happy with it, it shouldn't matter what others think
How do you guys get away with having such a small hatch for the trunk though?! I'm guessing most of you don't use the Xfire as a daily driver? Because when I'm grocery shopping that would be a PITA!

I'm not going to crack 120k like you, but I don't have student loans either, fortunately for me my dad went to school for 8 years and worked his *** off to become a doctor, and after years of working at the same hospital he's the medical director so he's paying for my school (thank god!). Even if he wasn't paying for it, the place I work for provides tuition for it's workers to go to school, so either way I wouldn't have free school - You probably had it worse than me growing up, but because you're not going to school you're pretty much limiting yourself. If you can make 120k a year with just a GED, imagine what you could do with a degree! You could be making so much more of yourself! College is hard, yeah, but you have the money to pay for it now right? Why not go back? Work hard for a few years and the pay off is worth it. Who knows, you could end up making upwards for 240k or even more! Wouldn't that be better than just topping out and staying on the plateau you're on now? (That's if you're on one, I don't know because you haven't told me what you normally make in a year).
As far as me falling face down in a gutter, unless someone trips me, I don't see that happening. I have pretty good balance, above average I might say
As for being a statistic, aren't we all in the big scheme of things? There are studies for just about everything. You're probably a statistic now yourself, a person with a GED that makes a good living, I'm sure someones crunched the numbers somewhere. So that makes you a statistic too! I don't know why people use that word in a negative way, because we're all statistics at some point.
I don't really know what 270 strong or what kind of stat you're qouting for your per capita (maybe the failure rate of students?). I didn't need a class in college to teach me that, I learned most about that stuff in High school in my Economics class (Awesome teacher I might add).
And if you want to take a trip down here that would be great, you can show me your car and everything you've done to it and then "school" me at the track we recently got that I mentioned earlier, maybe then you can drop the act and start actually being a nice guy?
Re: CROSSFIRE TAKES DOWN RX-8...owner
like i said lessons in life thats what you need. having **** handed to you teaches you nothing at all, blood sweat and tears, builds character and pride, what a man needs. you cant buy experience or respect, you earn it. to earn these things you take your beatings stand up and ask for another with a smile on your face. i could go to school for free through my company, for anything i want. but im happy working shoulder to shoulder with real men, who stand up and perform every day, no matter the conditions. im proud to work with the men i work with, and in my company you earn your stripes in the field not in a class room. my best days at work are the ones that are 14 - 16 hours long and i come home exhausted covered in sweat or freezing cold depending on the season, most days bleeding, i love it, i live for it, and it gives me a sense of pride to come home and look around and say i earned every thing i have. sitting in a cuibicle just isnt for everyone. before you go and disrespect someone think about what your saying and how it might effect them, because one day youll open your mouth to the wrong person that isnt 1200 miles away and acting coy wont get you out of it.

I'm not 100% sure why you're happy settling for working 14-16 hour days, I haven't met someone ever that likes working that much, most people that have those jobs are working towards something better so they can lead a more peaceful and restful life.
As for experience and respect, no you can't buy it, but working getting your *** kicked day in day out isn't the only way to get it. I'm not a big fan of people that "had it rough" preaching that living that way is the only way to build character and make people understand what the real world is. You learn the real world by living in it, not having the crap kicked out of you at your job. One way isn't going to do it for everyone, I will say though it does help for sure.
As far my mouth goes, and disrespecting people, there's never a situation where you can't calm someone down by talking it out and reasoning/rationalizing with them. I can't think of an experience where I've had someone wanting to punch me, because I normally don't let it get that far, most of the time if someone has a problem with me I just talk to them and ask them why they have an issue and see what I did to **** them off in the first place. After doing that a few times, you really start to understand where the fine line is with people and how far you can go.
I would listen to what you said about disrespect, and having character, but you show a pretty poor example of what it is to have respect and character.
Just look at your first few posts, how do you expect ANYONE to take your advice when you can't even follow it yourself? I came to this forum with a funny story of a guy that got his back hurt and was sent to the E.R by a matchbox car, and look how you responded. How can you tell me that you've learned what respect and character are, and tell me I need to not disrespect people when you pretty much started this whole debacle to begin with?
Can you honestly go back and reread everything you've said to me and be able to look at me in the eyes and tell me that you're a better person than I am?
As for the I need to be careful about what I say because I never know when I'll find someone that lives close to home, to be honest, the funniest insult anyone EVER tells me, is when they threaten to beat me up. Because at that point that means that they reached the point to where their mind can't think of anything else to say and the ONLY way they can win the argument is by trying to overcome me physically.
You really find out how weak minded people are by how quick they are to jump to that point.
I'm not trying to disrepsect you at all, but more so trying to show you that I didn't come here to start a war, or a pissing contest, but just a story to share, and to call a triple dog dare (the biggest of them all!) from someone on the 8 forum. I had no intent on trying to start a fued, but with the warm greeting you gave me, what the hell else was I suppose to do? Stop posting and enable your behavior that threating people is the only way to settle an argument? Hell no.

This **** ant thread needs to be closed. [SIZE=3]Here are the basics: Crossfire's are for those adults that appreciate fine automotive engineering and classic styling and rx8's are for kids that want to look cool.
