Can I Save Money and Run Low Octane? Wrong!

The 3.5 in my 2003 Nissan Altima is basically the same engine that's in the 350Z but without the same intake and tuning.
The new 2008 Altima coupe with the 3.5 (with only 6 spark plugs ) is now rated at 270 hp @ 6,000 RPM......You have to admit that's impressive. It manages about 35mpg on the hwy (For comparison, A US Gal is 4 litres, A CDN gal is slightly larger at 4.546 litres.)
Another topic : You want to talk about being ripped off for gas? The Gas companies own the gas stations here in Kelowna, BC.
Our fuel will cost 1.10/litre (4.40/gal US) , while in Abbotsford, which is closer to Vancouver, it may cost 99/litre.. Thats a difference of .50/gallon! To put this rip off in perspective, the next province over, has tar sands oil reserves second only to Saudia Arabia.
The only way to protest this is if we picked a gas compnay and stopped buying their fuel for say 3 weeks or so. Unfortunately the majority of Cdn's are resolved to the abuse.
And yet another ....I would have to dissagree that communism contributes to high priced fuel, and suggest that greedy capitalism is the culprit.

just because another engine makes more hp compared to another manufatuers engine doesn't make it better. What is your definition of better?
If your talking about HP and Tq, I know alot of pushrod 350 chevy motors that are way better than Toyota's new 350 V8 with 4 cams.
I believe mercedes built this engine at the time for emmisions regulations in Europe, and it was by far the best engine to be engineered durring it's release. It has the lowest emmisions and makes probably made the most HP when compared to other manufatuers with 3.0-3.2 L v6's you guys aren't looking at the design parameters that had to be met.
