Default Trading in the Crossfire

I have been thinking about trading in my Crossfire for a 2005 Cadillac Escalade EXT. I live in Omaha so the winters are very harsh on the Crossfire and I do not have a secondary vehicle for snow travel. I have always liked the Escalade trucks, but I figured I would ask the forum what they thought about them before making my final decision. I have been doing a lot of research on the Escalade Ext, but I thought maybe someone on here would have owned one before and maybe can give me some additional input.

Why not just buy an Avalanche?

I don't live in the snow, but I can't imagine being without a truck. So I kept my 05 Chevy 1/2 ton. What I did sell was my 2007 Chevy Avalanche. It was by far the best Chevy I've ever owned. I would buy a new truck every year. Mostly 4doors or ext cabs. I also had a 2003 Avalanche. The first thing I noticed with the new Avalanche was how quiet it was. It was very close to driving the Escalade. I never bought a Cadillac because I worked my trucks, so it was too pretty to get dirty. I would say for the money, I would at least test drive a new Avalanche or save money on a used one. It has the same power as the 05 EXT, and drives better. Your probably asking why I sold my Avalanche and kept my short bed instead. I didn't need the bigger vehicle, because I had a new 4Runner to haul the kids around. I also missed having a short bed, since the last time I owned one was early nineties.

The Avalanche doesn't have that luxury factor but for ride and comfort you can't go wrong. Maybe you can save enough to keep the Crossfire.

There's just something about the words "Cadillac" and "truck" next to each other that seem wrong to me. Just my 2 cents.

I would think twice about buying anything Cadillac, if you plan on keeping it when it's out of warranty, the parts are more expensive than most others makes / brands....

Waste of money for a glorified Chevy. You'll spend a ton of cash on gas too! My opinion is to buy an old beater 4x4 for about 4 grand. I bought my 6 cyl. F150 for 6 grand with 72k miles. I've had the truck for over 4 years now and it runs great! It's the best truck I've ever owned, meanwhile, the Xfire sleeps in the garage until the sun comes out. The truck has over 110k miles on the clock now. Trust me, if you go this route, the beater will pay for itself over and over again. Do you really want to drive a 60,000 dollar truck in the snow, salt, ice, and other crap? Just my $.02. Unless you are all about frontin' and showing off even in the winter weather, bypass the Escalade idea. Besides, you won't get crap for trade in right now.

That is very true, The trade-in price may nullify my desire to get a new vehicle. Sounds like getting a winter 4x4 may be my best bet. Thanks for all of the quick advice everyone.

Cool Re: Trading in the Crossfire

If you can, get a reliable used and inexpensive truck and keep the XFire for GOOD weather.

That's a double slap on depreciation, even if you aren't buying the vehicles brand new. That kind of money loss would keep me awake at night!
