I'm lost. Where is the cabin air filter and how do I access it to see how dirty it is?

I don't really care about a cabin air filter. I'll change it when my air vents quit blowing air.

Luxury cars including sports cars are expensive, that's why they aren't economy cars. Yes, the prices have dropped, but it was originally a luxury vehicle. Get used to it, or get a Hyundai Accent.

The dealers do suck, but I've had crappy Infiniti dealers too.
The issue here is "dealer rip-offs" from jacking up prices on parts for our cars, not doing it yourself oil changes to save money because we're being over charged for parts. But since you mention oil... Mobile 1 0W/40 synthetic, $6.19 a quart at AutoZone... my dealer, $10 per quart and that's just the only the beginning of how the dealerships are over inflating Crossfire parts.

Yes, European vehicles are famous for expensive parts, BUT a jump in price from $46 to $88 for a filter in less than two years??? Come on, that's a rip by the dealer on OEM parts plain and simple, and it has nothing to do with the Crossfire being a so-called "luxury" vehicle as you called it.

As for cheaper parts, in many cases that's exactly what you get with aftermarket items... cheaper parts, from a lowly oil filter on up. But that's all okay if you're happy with the way Chrysler and their independent dealers are running the Crossfire program.

So, please save the "" for another thread/topic, and the get a "whatever cheaper car" statement for another post (which is getting to be an over used term here if one doesn't sing praises about this car).

The car is fine, even at the MSRP of 35k which I paid. Have I been happy with my Crossfire? Yes. Would I do it again, even at today's discounted prices? No. Already on this board you seen an increase of new owners who could not afford, or would not pay MSRP, trying to cut corners with the upkeep on their cars by wanting to use cheaper oil, gas and the cheapest tires they can find because routine maintenance and vehicle care is too high.

And just to set the record straight, I am happy with this car, it's how it has been sold and serviced by Chrysler is where I have issues. To me, Chrysler dealers have done everything they can to trash the Crossfire since it was handed to them by DC. Making "routine service" parts more expensive than they need to be is just one example... and a complete rip in an attempt to drive the Crossfire off their lots and out of their service bays. They desperately want to rid themselves of the Crossfire.

Thanks for your post, even if we don't see eye to eye on the topic.

It is located on the passenger side, under the dash, just forward of the glove box. Remove two screws on the cover, slide back two plastic clips that hold the filter in place and pull the filter straight down and out.

See Andrew's post earlier in this thread for more detailed pics of the removal process...

i was at a loss looking under the dash as well... but here are some more detailed pics...

once you remove the cover/panel under the glove box & passenger foot well area.

this is what you see...
coverattached.jpg

you need to slide back each clip (off white color) to remove filter cover... then pull filter out (it stands up on end).

It's pretty obvious when you crawl under the dash to see where it is. You must get lost easy or your eye is still messed up....

Thanks for posting the pics again. I was going to put a link to them, but just got lazy with my post.

Is the new filter on the left OEM, because it looks like a cheaper version and a different design than the original one on the right???

I've only had my coupe(') for about six weeks and doing some self maintenance. I got a cabin air filter from the Mercedes dealer for $46 and installed it myself. The P/N A 210 830 08 18 on the filter I removed was a MicronAir filter, very heavy duty. The P/N I installed was A 210 830 12 18, Genuine MB product, Made in CZECH Republik, but has a much lighter framework. Doing a GOOGLE for the one I removed brought me to MICRONAIR 210 830 08 18 Cabin Air Filter (Combination Filter) Side ...MICRONAIR 210 830 08 18 Cabin Air Filter (Combination Filter) Side of Heater Case With Activated Charcoal C230 202.023- 202.023 2108300818.

I work with a guy in Cherry Hill, NJ that gets MB parts for 25-30% off of list.

RBrenton at MBworld.org. He can get anything that has a Mercedes part number.

Sadly, Chrysler today is not the same company that envisioned the Xfire. Higher prices for these parts come from "bean counters" who aren't worried about p*ssing off the 69,000 Xfire owners.

That is 69,000 people each of whom can potentially scare off a lot of possible new Chrysler customers or endorse the "New Chrysler LLC"

Seems stupid but the bean counters aren't in sales.
I work with big companies all the time and it is amazing how disconnected the goals of various departments can be.

I suggest letting them know how you feel. Complaining to the Service manager won't go far. He hears bad crap all day. No, I'd hit them where it matters. Let the dealer management or the owner know.

My Chrysler dealer has had my business for more than 15 years. When I had a bad brake job on my 14 year old truck, I let the sales dept know
I wouldn't be purchasing another car untill they got their act back together.

I bought my Xfire elsewhere and when I go in for service on any of my vehicles ( I have 7 Chrysler products on the street) I'm recognized. They greet me by name. At all their locations. And I get service.

I'll let you know how it goes on my Xfire. So far I haven't let them at it.

Point is that Sales drives any company. Chrysler can't survive, much less grow, on marking up parts. They'll take a hit verses losing a shot at new car sales. It doesn't matter where they build them, they have to sell them.

Most Xfire buyers were Chrysler fans or they at least comfortable with the company's reputation. Chrysler won't want to soil that. Let them know that they have. Get it upstairs to the Home office.

You will be doing yourself and the rest of us a favor.

roadster with a stick

"You can do all the advertising you want, it only takes one dissaisfied customer to send 250 potential sales to your competitor"

Multiply that concept by 69,000

I will not replace my cabin filter. I see no need to have one, especially if you have a roadster and have the top down. Does Chrysler have a face mask to wear when you have your top down for $88.00. Maybe we should all stick cigarette filters up our noses.

I guess if you remove it, the Crossfire will be filtered as good as an older vehicle (None)! I wonder if the fan will move more air or become noisy?

Cabin air filters are probably the best invention since popcorn....well almost.
In Texas A/C is a down right necessity in the summers and one has only to deal with replacing the cab air filter rather than paying an A/C shop 100 bucks an hour to tear apart your dash just to clean the evaporator coil.

Settin in traffic in 100 degree heat with a froze up evaporator will make one bless the day someone came up with a means to filter the air before dirt, dust, dander and dog hair plugs up the coil.

Auburn Hills Michigan: 5/12/2018

We are reporting from Auburn Hills, the former headquarters of the now bankrupt Chrysler Corporation in the ongoing controversy over Crossfire pulminary disease.

We have been informed that a whistleblower informant from the now defunct Chrysler, has testified in a Congresional probe into the rare disease. Remaining unamed, the informer disclosed, under oath, that Chrysler was trying to aviod bankruptcy by fabricating the need for cabin filters.

Chrysler specificaly targeted the Crossfire car which was made from 2004 through 2008 in a joint venture with Daimler which ended in failure.

The informant testified that Chrysler contracted with a Chinese company, Heavy Metals R Us in the city of Cha Ching, to manufacture replacement cabin filters. The filters were produced in China for 79 cents and sold at the Chrysler dealerships for $88.

The filters were found to be contaminated with lead as lead is very abundent in China. The inhalation of this lead from the replacement filters has been a cause of concern by the EPA and they ordered the removal of all Crossfire cabin filters back in August of 2011.

When contacted, Heavy Metals R US spokesman, a Mr. Foc Mee, said "So solly chally, to all Closfiah onahs."

Contacted for coment a 14 year Administrator for the Crossfire forum, Andrew, who only has a first name, said that the Crossfire owners "were only trying to keep their interiors clean. I wish someone would have told us.(cough, cough)"

Another Crossfire owner , chuck65, said that he never replaced his filter not because of any insite on his part, but because he's cheap.

chuck65 auctioned his mint, lead free, 2005 Crossfire at Christies last year for $93,000. The reason for the high selling price was that there are not that many Crossfires out there. Most Crossfires were destroyed due to the high residual lead content.

Stogie, isn't the evaporator on the engine side of the firewall. It seems to me that the air flow comes from the outside over the evaporator coil and then through the cabin filter entering the interior. The only way you could get dog hair in the filter would be if the dog was in the engine compartment or the fan is running in reverse.

I'm not being a smart *** (this time) about it, but are you sure about the air flow direction.
