Default If you ever wondered about Warranty

Hey guys,
I just got done sending an E-mail to someone in Florida. After looking at it, i thought it might be helpful to some people on the board.

Something I didn't tell you yesterday is about how the warranty breaks down from year to year and car to car. I'll try to break this down as simple as possible.

2004-2005
If you bought or leased a new Crossfire (non-SRT-6) the original warranty was 3 yr/36,000 mile and it also included a 7 yr/70,000 mile Powertrain Warranty. This applied to any PRIVATE sold unit. Fleet / Rental cars were exempt from the 7/70. The powertrain warranty is transferable to the following owners. There is a $150 transfer fee to the SECOND owner.
This is where it gets stupid. Some 2005 cars don't have any transfer fee, some do. Some 2005 cars can only have the Powertrain Warranty transferred once to the 2nd owner, some have the warranty stay with the car until the warranty expires no matter how many times it gets sold. This is another reason to look at buying from a Chrysler Dealer. Also most of your sales people won't have a clue what I'm talking about right now, so if you do find one, I would ask to speak to a sales manager or finance manager to help out.

2006-2007
In 2006 Chrysler dropped the 7/70,000 mile Powertrain Warranty. These cars have only a 3 yr/36,000 mile warranty. This is why we Certify most of our 2006 models.

Certification
This is where you can get an additional 8 yr/80,000 mile Powertrain Warranty as well as an additional 3 months and 3,000 miles added to the factory 3 / 36. This can be added to any eligible car. It includes a copy of the Clean CarFax, a 125 point inspection, Tires must meet minimum tread depth, brake pad thickness, and it also must have both keys, floormats and the owners manual. This also includes the extra's of roadside assistance, towing, car rental, flat service, out of gas, lock out, battery jump, etc.

Feel free to print this and take it with you if you do any shopping down that way. If I can't sell you a car, I want to at least make sure that you aren't taken advantage of. I will get you a coupe if we can put a deal together. I purchase cars for customers at the sale all the time. Just let me know what you want me to do.

Thanks again,
Tod

I have checked into powertrain warranty transferability for a 2005 SRT6 and two 2004 coupes. Only one of the 2004's was transferable, even though all have owners manuals that say they are. It was explained to me that it depends on what was being offered when the car was originally sold. I have found the best way to find out is to use the Chrysler web site and send in a written request which includes the VIN. I received prompt replies IN WRITING which is a big advantage when you just have 30 days after you buy the car to be sure you can transfer it and then need to get to a dealer to do it.

There was never a 7/70 Powertrain warranty on any SRT vehicle (Crossfire, Viper, Ram, Charger etc). So that would explain the SRT-6.

I bought the maximum warranty available upon original purchase of my Crossfire and now I'm wondering if I can add another extended warranty through Chrysler. How would I go about this?

Thanks for posting his todk64!

Just need current miles and the last 8 of your VIN to see what it would cost you.

Hi Tod -

I PM'd you yesterday about a warranty question.

I would also be interested in finding out the cost and availability of extended warranties.

The last 8 of my VIN are 5X056275 and I have 13,300 miles on the odometer.

Also, is the post about having to go to a Chrysler dealer to transfer warranty correct? I was told at time of purchase that I did have the manufacturers warranty, but they could not tell me how much.

Thanks for the help.

I've had several members PM me about buying extended warranties. I would like to get all the options put together on a post with all levels of coverage and prices right up front. I will also try to give any one on here a break over the M.S.R.P. as we really don't have anything invested in your current car. All the service contracts will be through Chrysler, we will not price out any 3rd party contracts. This way if you were interested, all we have to do is see what your car is eligible for (VIN information and current miles) and process the paperwork.
Let me know if you are interested. Jeremy (My Finance Manager) is off today, but I will be coming in tomorrow on my day off to go over this information with him. I hope to have the Post up by this weekend.

Thanks again,
Tod

Good news and bad. It is going to be a one for one case to find out what car is eligible for what coverage.

Also did some research on the "Chrysler website warranties" It's not Chrysler. Its a dealer. This is fine, I can't see a problem with buying from a dealer, but don't think that you are going directly through Chrysler. Just spreading info.

Chrysler refuses to offer their extended warranties to the public and cut out their dealer network.

www.chryslerservicecontracts.com is a dealer in Illinois.

www.chryslerwarrantys.com is a dealer in Massachusetts.

This is a follow-up to my earlier post. I received a letter from Chrysler on transferring the powertrain warranty to my newly purchased 2004 Crossfire. They gave me a little more than 30 days, naming the last day it could be transferred. I believe a title change prompted the letter but I had also inquired about it through the web site. I didn't do it because I am reselling the car, but its good to know its possible. The manual is pretty clear, you can go to any dealer and pay the $150 to get the $100 deductible per occurrence powertrain warranty coverage. They run a computer check at the dealer to see if car is eligible.

I am very happy with the Chrysler Maximum Care Warranty that I recently purchased from www.chryslerservicecontracts.com. The cost was hundreds less than local dealers, and beat anything else that I could find on-line. You can get an immediate quote by going to the link. I did the final purchase by phone in just a few minutes. The fellow that runs the on-line service for Champion Chrysler Dodge and Jeep (Mr. Case) was very knowledglible and helpful. That is all he does. By the way, the Crossfire is a Specialty Class I vehicle which adds a surcharge to cost.

"...thousands less than local dealers..." I don't understand this statement when genuine Chrysler MaxiCare Extended Warranties cost between $1600 and $1800 for XF's. At least that's the prices that have been quoted to me by local dealers in the Washington, DC area and I believe todk64's quotes are in about the same range.

That website isn't Chrysler, its a dealership just like me. I'm not a warranty salesman, I sell cars for a living. I'm quoting the Chrysler MaxCare 7/70 for most forum members w/ the $100 deductible and the buy back clause. There are also many 3rd party service contracts out there as well. As for price, I'm charging a flat over cost per contract. Only the SRT-6 has a surcharge that I'm aware of.

CORRECTION: I ment to say hundreds less. Sorry for the confussion. Last month I purchased a Maximum Care 7 year/ 60K mile Chrysler Service Contract for my 2004 Limited from www.chryslerservicecontracts.com. The cost was $1380 for a $0 deductible contract. It would have been $1120 for $100 deductible. The on-line site represents a dealer and sells the same Chrysler contracts that you can buy at any dealer. I found the prices to be all over the place depending on the dealer. Quotes from Chrysler directly were very high ($2000 plus). Of course, a 7/70k would have cost a little bit more. I receive a copy of the transaction via e-mail while I was on the phone with Mr. Case, and received the official Max Care contract within a week or so. All is good. If your shopping for a contract, I highly recomment looking a this option.

Nice deal - that makes a LOT more sense to me! I can't describe what a comfortable feeling it is to drive an XF knowing that any major (or for that matter, minor) repairs are not my problem but Chrysler's. My car has had the radio replaced, fuel control relay replaced and 2 (yes, 2) rear differentials. That's over $7K in repair costs for $200 (radio was replaced in 5 minutes and no charge) and I had a hoot driving some new rentals to boot!
