Door Ding Protection - How to
Re: Door Ding Protection - How to
Just saw your post about the dings in your car. A paintless dent repair can run anywhere from about $75 to $150. per ding. They will not work if the paint is broken. I went through about $350 worth of dings before I decided I needed to do something.
The protectors are easy to make and they work. By the way I added a cotton sock to the hook that mounts on each wheel well. I was getting a bit of a rub mark from the plastic/hard rubber that makes up the hook on the bungee cord.
I had originally tried to make soemthing which attached to the car with magnets but it blew off in the wind and was pretty ugly. These are the best design I could come up with. I've used them for about two years now and no dings KOW.

Absolute genius – I am new to this forum and I asked a question about this earlier today and I was directed to this clever solution for which I am very grateful. I for one will be buying the noodles, bungee cords etc and making my own. I would rather the car looked “vaguely” ridiculous when parked in a busy car park, but stay free from dings (we call them dints in the UK) when I am driving it.
This forum is really good and, having recently bought an Xfire, I have spent several hours reading posts about all manner of really useful observations and pointers. I hope that I will be able to make a useful contribution myself at some point in the future.

Re: Door Ding Protection - How to
My BMW got caught in a bad hail storm last year which demolished the hood and roof and trunk. I found a guy in my area that looked very unprofessional, but apparently is the guru for the area. He charged $250 to do all of it. And the work was phenomenal. NOTE: don't judge a book by its cover. Make sure they don't screw up your inside paneling. The guy made sure to point out the good work that he does.

2004 Coupe, zero door dings.... my solution, park way out and WALK, and also NEVER, NEVER park near a Lincoln or other large door cars... those doors like ours, swing wide and stay away from really old women, old men, little children, clunker cars, trucks, vans and people in general... LOL that just about covers everyone on the planet!!!! Park far, far away!!! Now you all know as well no matter how far out you park, some butt will be right next to you when you return to your car. There is no escape, put the bumbers on it to protect and someone will key it for you. Not sure how I've survived all these years without the dings. Lucky, lucky, lucky!!

Re: Door Ding Protection - How to
Not neccessarily so Deborah............... just because I use a door ding protector doesn't mean I am going to get keyed. It hasn't happened in all the time I've used mine. You are correct about no matter how far away you park someone is going to park next to you.

Re: Door Ding Protection - How to
Not saying you would necessarily get keyed but, some people are just malicious that way. Happened to me with my Corvette a couple of times, seems some just can't stand that you have something nice and that you value. I think the noodle idea is a good one, especially if you are forced to park in certain areas where the car has to sit all day. I am fortunate that I work from home and my car gets to sit unbothered, covered up all day. Grocery Stores are my biggest fear!!!
