All you problem solvers... where to put ugly parking pass.
All you problem solvers... where to put ugly parking pass.
Okay I hope all who read this don't think I am wasting forum space. I am very troubled about a recent dilemma involving my yearly parking pass. This will be the first (and only) sticker I will have to (I am forced to) put on my XFire. I pay $200 for the thing so I can park on campus (not that there is any room to park), the least they could do was make the sticker indiscreet. But no. A large yellow rectangle about 4 inches by 2 inches.
Here are the rules...
"Decals must be permanently displayed on the left rear bumper or securely affixed to the outside, bottom left (driver's side) of the rear window, no more than three inches from the window molding. Decals taped or mounted inside the rear window are in violation and are subject to ticketing."
I tried the locations on my Sapphire Xfire and it looks hideous.
To all you problem solvers out there... I want your input. Where to put the bold yellow parking pass?

You know when you go to jiffy lube to get your oil changed and they give you that plastic decal they write the reminder date and miles on for your next oil change? You place it on the inside of the windshield yet it has no adhesive, just cling factor.
Find something thin like that can be cut to match your parking sticker; then affix the sticker to it. Place on the outside rear window when you park on campus and remove it when you leave. Test the plastic piece with a hose to simulate rain (no need if you live in So Cal) prior to placing the parking sticker on it.
Might just do the trick. If somebody steals it, just tell the campus police its been scraped and ask for a replacement.

That seems like a good idea. Its amazing how much it detracts from the rear view of the car. The rear is personally my favorite angle and it pains me to have to do this to the car haha. Call me OCD. Any other input feel free to chime in.

Re: All you problem solvers... where to put ugly parking pass.
You can elaborate on what I'm about to propose...
Stick it to a piece of flat plastic (or metal).
To the plastic (or metal) attache chains (or tie wraps).
With these chains, attach it to the rear spoiler (or other item) in such a way that it can not be removed easily - i.e. a padlock to which you have the key.
Install and remove at your leisure.

Go get some 409 kitchen degreaser. Use it on the sticky part of the decal until most of the sticky is gone, try not to remove it all. Once most of the sticky has been removed your decal can then be applied by suction, just like the Jiffy Lube decals mentioned above. I had the same kind of BS requirements at my school. I used 409 on all my parking decals and never once was caught. Good Luck!
Re: All you problem solvers... where to put ugly parking pass.
You could apply it to a piece of saran wrap and just tape it to the window! I have to do this with the parking sticker to the marina I go to.
If all else fails and you have to stick it to the glass...use a razor blade and "Goo Gone" to get it back off!

Re: All you problem solvers... where to put ugly parking pass.
Thanks for all your input. My main concern was the decal detracting from the appearance of the car period. I have thought of 3 different locations.
bottom left of window (school regulations require this).
bottom center of window (it would flow with line of symmetry that spans the car).
top of window somewhere.
Let me know! Thanks.

I also have an SSB coupe, and the thought of a yellow rectangle sticker on it gives me the *******.
That aside, I assume you have to have it so think about this; get some sign vinyl in a matching yellow, 2 " wide, and run it full width across the bottom of the window. Then apply the yellow rectangle to that. Or from the same sign source have them create another yellow sticker, the same size, with a crossfire logo or something similar, for the opposite corner of the window.
Either way, you'll keep it more symmetrical than having one ugly yellow wart on one corner.
