The Good, Bad, and the Ugly
The Good, Bad, and the Ugly
This afternoon I was showing my neighbor the Michelin's on my Crossfire, he works for a tire shop that specializes in Semi Truck tires but they are also a Michelin distributor he is going to see what his cost would be for a set but I would need to find a shop to mount them since they didn't have the proper equipment. While we were looking at the tires I discovered a nail in the front passenger tire (BAD). After he left I pulled off the tire and discovered that the rim was bent on the inside bead (UGLY!). It must have been that pot hole I hit two years ago in South Dakota when we went to Sturgis. Since it has been running for two years and about 7,000 miles without an issue I figure it will be okay to take on my trip next weekend over the 4th. Just to ensure that it wouldn't be a problem I pulled the old Hi Lift jack off the Jeep and worked out the flat spot for now until I get it replaced. Then I took it over to the tire shop by my house, Les Schwab, to have the nail removed and the hole patched. I printed out the three pages from the service manual about removing the TPM before dismounting the tire and how to reinstall it. The person at the counter said they didn't need the information, that all their technicians were trained on the proper method for working on tires with TPM and that they were the TPM specialist. Well I thought to myself, yea right I have heard that before, and more then likely we'll be having a meeting with the manager before this day is done. Well to my surprise the TPM sensor worked after they repaired the tire and they didn't even scuff the rim (GOOD). Now I know I have a tire shop I can depend on ton mount my new tires when I am ready. Well now I am off looking for a replacement rim, oh what fun.
