Some very interesting information regarding Karmann, the REAL manufacturer of the Crossfire...

and their own site...

Really surprising the numbers and variety of cars produced by Karmann over the years. Check this out, must be quite a large plant to produce these kinds of numbers. The Crossfire production numbers are listed as 37,896 coupes and 16,269 converts for a total of 54,165. This is probably a little dated since the highest current VIN numbers are in the 65,000 range. I am willing to bet that the original projected five year production contract between Chrysler and Karmann was for 100,00 units. I doubt there is any way that number will be reached. My ask/google search also revealed a item translated from a German business magazine about DCX agreeing to pay Karmann 330 million euros because of low sales/production rates on the Crossfire...
By contrast from 1998 to 2002 Karmann produced 143,970 Mercedes Benz CLK coupes and converts. The latest version of the CLK and the SLK are still in production at Karmann.
Cheers,
Slim
