Chrysler Sale - Warranty Status?
Chrysler Sale - Warranty Status?
Hi,
Does anyone know what the status of Chrysler car warranty's or extended warranty's are since Chrysler has been sold to a private company? Was there any mention in the press releases how this might be handled for existing owners. I could not find this in any of the press releases that I read. Also...thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Warranty should be Ok - however -
If the new investors figure that there is more value in the pieces than in the whole, they won't give a damn about warranties. The little people get screwed.
No different than corporate bonds. If corporations really intend on staying in business, they have to keep up the interest payments. But if chapter 11 is more appealing, the corporation does not honor the obligation.
We wait to see.
And if its like the markets, when things look the worst, it might be the best time to get in.

I still would like to get some type of extended warranty...and was considering a 7/85 maxi care from Chrysler...but due to the sale of Chrysler...I am not sure if that is the right move.
At this point...if you still want an extended warranty...what would you buy...one from chrysler???...or an aftermarket one.
And for any members out there that are still considering buying an extended warranty...what are your thoughts?
Also...do you think extended warranty's will go up or down in price due to the present situation?
Thanks in advance for everyone's opinions!

I do not know if this is true with all dealerships, but my Chrysler dealership does not accept aftermarket warranty's...or deal indirectly...they say the owner must pay the bill for warranty work...and then I get reinbursed by my warranty company...they told me that most chrysler dealers deal this way...because many aftermarket warranty's won't pay for certain items...and they must deal with Chrysler directly. The Chrysler dealership is not suppose to get in the middle.
He told me that is why they sell Chrysler Factory Warranty's as well as aftermarket ones...but the Factory extended warranty's out-sell the aftermarket ones 5 to 1 !! I am going to ask some other dealers what their policy is on extended warranty's.
Has anyone else looked into this yet? If so...please share your experience.

Re: Chrysler Sale - Warranty Status?
I don't know about other car makers' warranties, but I have been extremely happy with the ones from Chrysler; I have them on all three of my cars. Aftermarket or third party warranties are a PITA for the repair shops and car owners. There's always a discussion - repair shop says something needs to be fixed/replaced; warranty company says no or that they have to send out one of their reps to take a look; it goes on and on. You would not believe what my buddy goes through with Carmax and their warranty. Once it took them 10 days to decide on whether or not they would replace a transmission; they did but then the stuck him with the rental car since it was over the time limit. Then there was a big discussion because the shop wanted to charge somebody for storage. It is a nightmare every single time he needs to have something done to his cars. Every bill I get from Chrysler is $0.00.
