Default New owner, New Slide Project.

So what's up fellas, my name's chris. I'm from orlando, and i recently purchased an '06 crossfire brand new, 51 miles, for $20,500 or $26,799 out the door.

Anyways. I just got out of my latest project, a '98 240sx with the works, motor, suspension, the works. It was my drift project for the past two years until sunday april 22nd when it became casualty to a wall at orlando speedworld at a drift event. Counter steer to early too high in the bank = wall clap. So i'm parting the car out, and using what i can.

Now comes my new slide project, the xdriftfire. Haha. Anyways. My plans are as follows.

First, I'm ordering KW Variant 2 Coilovers for some serious slamming purposes, with a call to KW in order to make sure they send me a shorter spring to ensure this car will be kissing the gravel on the roads with full stiffness and speed bump see-saw action all day long.

Then I head to my buddy's shop we call Performance Factory. This is where the single turbo conversion all begins. We're gonna be running a turbonetics hybrid turbo at 8 psi on stock internals with a set of 850cc injectors as well as a walbro fuel pump with a custom sleeve to fit the fire. From there we run a greddy hybrid front mount intercooler of 24x12x3" with custom made intercooler piping wrapping each side of the engine bay in addition to the Tial 38mm waste gate with the proper boost spring to throw you back into the seat where you're supposed to be. I'll be adding a Greddy Type S Blow Off Valve to create some accented whoosh's for your everyday fanboys.

So on and so forth. I'm getting spied on at work, I'll do an update again in a little bit. But anyways, I'm chris.

Here's my last project, casualty project.

heya Chris, best of luck with the new drift project ... you'll be wanting to pull the traction control module relay under the hood to disable the ASM (active stability management), traction control, and ABS... otherwise you'll find it pretty impossible to drift it as the ECU will keep shutting down the throttle when you start sliding, no matter if the traction control is active.

please keep us posted on how the project goes ... glad to have a fellow modder on board here. i still have not dug into the Xf much as i still have my project car and plenty of things to finish on it.

also, you may be interested in the KMAC camber kits for the crossfire ... check ebay for them.

hmmm i will definitely have to find out where that relay is, any kind of help is appreciated. im new to the car so im learning all over again. that module will have to come out though, i was wondering why even if the traction control button engaged to turn it off why the car seems to bog left and right when i go sliding. thanks for the help!! and for the camber kits i'm going to have one made probably for the car. most of the project is going to be custom fabricated besides the basics like coilovers, intercooler, turbo, etc. but the exhaust manifold will be remastered and crafter into a beast like no other.

and for the exhaust im going to actually separate the tips and run them further from each other, more 350z like. i don't like the center mounted exhaust, looks too tacky to me. so i'll be doing a custom fabbed mandrel bent 3" dual exhaust from the downpipe of the turbo back. 2 test pipes on each side.

While doing the turbo project please take lots of pics. and post them, i believe there will be quite a few people interested in how it was done. Also if your friend who owns the shop can produce the kits for a reasonable price there would be a lot of interest. Good luck on the r & d.

it wont be easy to get a mass kit produced just because the manifold is going to be the stock manifold custom fabricated all over again. but, if there seems to be enough interest maybe we can make a mock up manifold and have them mass produced in order for us to throw a kit together for the fellow xfire owners. i am going to need your help with certain aspects of the car the way its tuned stock and everything, im going to either do a greddy emanage or have a custom tune ecu with a computer in my car for tuning, so i have to test out the different options. for the intake side of things we will be removing the stock engine cover and mounting a small 6"x6" electric fan over that ghetto intake mercedes made for us. i'll keep you guys up to date for sureee.

When you come close to completion you may want to look up Speed Innovations and see if they will do a custom tune seeing as they already do ecu work on xfires.

well i think i'm going to stick to tuning over at performance factory actually. jeremy the owner of the shop just got half way done tuning my buddy's single turbo z. we're running a very similar setup on the xfire and the z as mentioned above, just different fitment issues and motors. but. on a single turbo stock internal hybrid turbonetics turbo 350z we got it tuned down to 450 rwhp, keep in mind we're only half way done with the tune, but we started at 350 whp base tune first run. this is about the fourth run we've done. so we're looking at around 550 whp by the time we're done tuning his car. this is the reason i will be tuning at PF. I think i'm going to run a greddy emanage for the basic air/fuel tuning and monitoring and then having a computer chipped in and remastered to tune the setup to run hard on stock internals, that, and reliable.

Congrats, I just want to know how did you go from $20,500 purchase price to $26,799 out the door?

Are you including finance charges?

it was basically because i have really SHI**Y credit. warranty, gap, insurance, dealer fee, tax, tag, etc. i also had to go from CT to FL with my registrations and everything, so everything is new. eh. oh well. still though, good deal for me.

the vq won't handle that kind of power on stock internals very long. good luck with the turbo, it hasn't been done yet, would love to see if you can get it done. the car should make a great drift car, low weight, great control, all that stuff. what the estimated date of completion, before july?

VQ35. the 350z motor. and the way its tuned has worked out fine before. jeremy's car is on stock internals pushing 18 psi out of a twin turbo kit kicking out about 570 whp, has been for the past 8 months without any major issues. good stuff sir.

chrislis,

You may want to look up various threads on this forum from HDDP and Woody regarding the traction control/ESP systems.

Turning off the traction control at the switch reduces the interference by 80%, but will still cut power in a full on drift maneuver.

Easiest way around the ESP system is to have a MB tuner technician turn it off in the ECU... PERMANENTLY like HDDP did for his fully race prepped '04 Crossfire.

I'd get a hold of him for some of those details if I were you.

Good luck with your project and make sure to share...

if you have a guy who tunes ecu's he should be able to figure out how to turn it off permanently pretty easy, the guy who did my ecu figured it out in less than 30 seconds.

oh, and not to be a ****, but 18 psi on a stock vq is going to kaboom very soon, that is waaayyy too much boost. but best of luck to him, the stock kits boosts 8 psi (assuming its the greddy kit) and the turbo becomes less efficient at 575 crank horsepower. i would love to see that thing in action though, that's got to be close to a ten second car on dr's.

haha yep. AJ with the 450 whp single turbo conversion z on stock internals ran a 11.3 at 12 something mph. it was intense. i just wanna get sideways, often.
